BreedingUpgrades Chicken Egg Fix 1.0.0

Keep ordinary Valheim chicken eggs at vanilla quality while retaining BreedingUpgrades for live-born creatures, Asksvin eggs and other eggs.

What it fixes

BreedingUpgrades 1.0.2 treats any item whose shared name contains egg as upgradeable. A starred chicken egg can then fail recipes that expect the normal quality-1 item.

This add-on:

• excludes vanilla ChickenEgg from BreedingUpgrades' egg-upgrade selection;
• keeps a quality-1 failsafe in case another path tries to star a protected egg;
• optionally repairs already-starred protected eggs during world/inventory load and save;
• leaves Asksvin and every other egg unchanged by default;
• supports optional additional protected prefab names;
• performs no recipe scan and no per-frame egg processing.

Choose combined or standalone

Do not install this together with ValheimCompatibilityFixes. They contain the same egg patch and are marked incompatible to prevent duplicate patching.

You may install this package together with the separate AzuCraftyBoxesBuildingOnly package.

Requirements and checked versions

The DLL was compiled against the public Valheim 0.221.4 API. The selection method and quality path were checked against BreedingUpgrades 1.0.2 bytecode/decompiled source. It has not been run in a live Valheim client in this build environment, so use the copied-profile test below before the main world.

Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman

1. Download this ZIP without extracting it.
2. Open the Valheim profile that will use it.
3. Open Settings and choose Import local mod.
4. Select BreedingUpgradesChickenEggFix-1.0.0.zip.
5. Confirm this package and BreedingUpgrades appear under Installed.
6. Put the same package on every client and the dedicated server, then launch once to generate the config.

If local import is unavailable, manually place BreedingUpgradesChickenEggFix.dll in BepInEx/plugins/BreedingUpgradesChickenEggFix/.

Setting	Default	Purpose

These settings are local; this add-on does not add its own ServerSync protocol. Distribute the same config to the server and clients for consistent behavior.

Performance

New eggs are checked only when Valheim calls ItemDrop.SetQuality during the relevant creation path. Existing inventories are checked only on load/save when repair is enabled. There is no recipe discovery, world-wide object search, or per-frame egg loop.

Copied-profile test

1. Temporarily set BreedingUpgrades' upgrade chance to 100% in a test world.
2. Produce a chicken egg. Confirm it remains quality 1/unstarred and works in recipes.
3. Produce an Asksvin egg and confirm this add-on does not normalize it.
4. Place an existing starred chicken egg in an inventory, save/reload, and confirm it becomes quality 1.
5. Restore the intended BreedingUpgrades chance and check the BepInEx log for errors.

Uninstall

Remove this package and restart. BreedingUpgrades can star chicken eggs again. Eggs already repaired to quality 1 cannot recover their previous quality automatically.
