README

Vanilla Skills Modifier

Customize vanilla skills to your pace: leveling speed, skill effect strength, weapon damage scaling, and extra features like sneak backstab bonuses.

What It Does

Vanilla Skills Modifier gives you simple config control over the normal Valheim skill system.

You can adjust:

  • XP gain for all vanilla skills
  • Normal skill effect strength for all vanilla skills
  • Individual XP and effect multipliers for combat, movement, and utility skills
  • Extra weapon, tool, and magic damage scaling
  • Optional Sneak-based backstab bonus scaling

The mod keeps the normal skill logic in place and lets you tune how strong or fast that logic becomes.

Config

After launching the game once, edit:

BepInEx/config/mgdev.vanillaskillsmodifier.cfg

The config sections are numbered with two digits so Thunderstore keeps them in the right order.

Current sections:

  • 01 - Global
  • 02 - Smart Tweaks
  • 03 - Swords
  • 04 - Knives
  • 05 - Clubs
  • 06 - Polearms
  • 07 - Spears
  • 08 - Blocking
  • 09 - Axes
  • 10 - Bows
  • 11 - Elemental Magic
  • 12 - Blood Magic
  • 13 - Unarmed
  • 14 - Pickaxes
  • 15 - Wood Cutting
  • 16 - Crossbows
  • 17 - Jump
  • 18 - Sneak
  • 19 - Run
  • 20 - Swim
  • 21 - Fishing
  • 22 - Cooking
  • 23 - Farming
  • 24 - Crafting
  • 25 - Dodge
  • 26 - Ride

Most settings use 1 by default, which means unchanged.

Example: if AllSkillsXpMultiplier is 1.5 and SwordsXpMultiplier is also 1.5, Swords XP gains become 2.25x.

Recommended Values

Most multiplier settings include a recommended range of 0.1 to 10.

You can go higher, but very large values such as 20 or 50 may make the game heavier to process and can cause slowdowns or instability, especially when many effects stack together.
