PortalPicker
Portals without pairs or saved destinations: look at a portal to see every other portal in the world, pick one with the mouse wheel and press E to travel. Shift+E names the portal. Needed on the server and by every player.PortalPicker
Portals without pairs and without saved destinations. Look at any portal and pick where to go.
How it plays
- Look at a portal. Next to the crosshair a list pops up: every other portal in the world, named ones alphabetically, then unnamed ones by distance, each with its distance from this portal.
- Mouse wheel moves the selection (on a gamepad: d-pad left/right). While the list is open the wheel does not zoom the camera.
- E (use) takes you to the selected portal, with the same rules as the game: no ore or metal (unless the portal allows everything), no travel while a summoned boss is alive if the world says so.
- Shift + E names the portal: the game's own text box, only the name, up to 30 letters.
- After a trip, the portal you came from is selected, so going back is a single press.
- Walking into a portal does nothing, and portals with the same name are no longer paired: a portal stores nothing about where it leads.
The portal still lights up and swirls when you come near with something you can take through, as long as there is another portal to go to.
Server and players
Everyone needs the mod: the server and every player. Only the server knows every portal in the world (the game sends players just the ones nearby), so the server keeps the list and sends it to the players when a portal is built, renamed or destroyed. Jotunn does not let a player without the mod join a server with it, and the other way round.
Existing portal names are kept: the mod uses the game's own portal name.
Do not use together with other mods that change how portals connect (XPortal and the like): PortalPicker does not load when XPortal is installed.
Settings
ShowDistance(server rule, default on): show the distance to each portal.VisibleRows(per player, 9): how many portals the list shows at once; longer lists scroll.NameLength(per player, 30): the longest name you can type.
