Hearth Logistics

Client-side inventory, storage and base logistics for Valheim — version 0.2.12.

Reduce repetitive inventory management while keeping control of when items move. Configure personal inventory profiles and smart storage, then trigger Deposit, Restock, Rebalance or Service Base when you need them.

Install on the client only. No Hearth Logistics server plugin or component is required. The mod is intended for use with vanilla dedicated servers, and unmodded players can continue joining. See the multiplayer limits below.

Features

Inventory Profiles

Select a profile beside the normal inventory statistics. Choose Edit to create, rename, duplicate or delete profiles, set item Min/Max quantities and lock physical inventory slots. Switching profiles changes the rules used by Deposit and Restock; it does not move items by itself.

  • Min 10 / Max 10: try to keep exactly 10 through Deposit and Restock.
  • Min 5 / Max 10: Restock when below 5, up to 10; Deposit excess above 10.
  • Blank Min means no refill requirement. Blank Max means no upper inventory limit; a Min-only rule restocks to Min.

Locked slots are left untouched by Hearth Logistics. Profiles and settings are saved locally per character. Item rows come from carried items plus existing rules, so rules remain editable when Current is zero.

Smart Storage

Open a chest to configure Hearth Logistics beside the normal container inventory:

  • Item/category filters for individual slots, rows or the whole chest, with empty-slot ghost icons.
  • Create filters from current contents, copy/paste layouts and named templates.
  • Live Current, optional Min / Max, and Fill Available Space stock rules.
  • Chest Priority and Overflow designation.

Fill Available Space dynamically uses compatible storage capacity instead of requiring a numeric Max. Higher priority is preferred for deposits; Overflow is a fallback. Slot filters and stock rules can be used independently. Chest configuration is stored through the shared ZDO rule system.

Logistics actions

  • Deposit: moves eligible inventory excess into nearby configured storage, using the active profile and respecting locked slots, filters, priorities, Max limits and available compatible capacity. Uses Overflow as fallback. Deposit unlisted items is enabled by default.
  • Restock: deposits profile excess first, then fills active-profile shortages from normal, filtered or Overflow storage. Chest Min and personal storage reserves remain protected; Max and Fill do not reserve stock. Placement filters do not prohibit withdrawing existing items.
  • Rebalance: redistributes storage using stock Min/Max rules, compatible destinations and available supply. Configured-storage Rebalance is currently available in single-player; see multiplayer restrictions below.
  • Service Base: optionally deposits excess and restocks the player, then services nearby supported objects. Depositing is on by default; player restocking is off. Service objects runs servicing separately.
  • Servicing: supplies supported smelters, blast furnaces, charcoal kilns, windmills and spinning wheels, plus finite-fuel fires, hearths and ground/wall torches. Per-object policies control inputs, fuel permissions and refill thresholds; resin lighting has its own switch.
  • Collect outputs: stores processor products observed spawning during the current session. Servicing also collects these when Collect observed outputs is enabled. It does not sweep arbitrary ground loot.
  • Craft from storage: nearby eligible storage contributes resources to ordinary new-item crafting at a station. Cached availability keeps previews inexpensive; actual crafting validates live resources and rolls back staged ingredients if crafting does not complete.

Inventory rules versus chest rules

Inventory Profile: “What should I keep on my character?”

Chest Configuration: “Where should this item be stored, and how much should this chest hold?”

Chest placement filters guide deposits and sorting. Stored items remain eligible for Restock, subject to chest Min, personal storage reserves and normal access checks.

Installation

Requires BepInEx 5 on the client. This release is built against BepInEx 5.4.23.5 and Valheim 1.0.15. Harmony is supplied by BepInEx; Newtonsoft.Json and Unity assemblies are supplied by Valheim. Jotunn is not required. Dependencies are not bundled.

  1. Install BepInEx 5 for your Valheim client and close the game.
  2. Extract the release ZIP into the Valheim directory, preserving this structure:
Valheim/
└── BepInEx/
    └── plugins/
        └── HearthLogistics/
            └── HearthLogistics.dll
  1. Start Valheim and look for Hearth Logistics 0.2.12 loaded in BepInEx/LogOutput.log.

Install nothing from this package on the dedicated server. To uninstall, close the game and remove the HearthLogistics plugin folder.

Getting started

  1. Open your inventory, select Inventory Profile, then Edit to create or configure a profile.
  2. Set Min/Max for carried items. While editing, hover a slot and press F4 to lock or unlock it.
  3. Open a chest and use Configure Slot Filters and the stock-rule table. Give deposit destinations matching filters, stock rules or Overflow designation.
  4. Close the inventory and press F6 to Deposit or F7 to Restock.
  5. Configure servicing policies before using F8 Rebalance or F9 Service Base where supported.

Controls

Action Default
Deposit F6
Restock F7
Rebalance F8
Service Base F9
Mod Settings F10
Service objects F11
Collect outputs F12
Lock hovered inventory slot while editing F4
Restock active profile (additional binding) Unbound (None)

Change these under Mod Settings → Hearth Logistics → Preferences. Action hotkeys operate during normal gameplay, outside inventory/settings menus. Slot locking only works in profile Edit mode, and text entry suppresses logistics hotkeys. Alt + right-click an inventory item opens the profile editor.

Configuration

Open Mod Settings → Hearth Logistics from the main menu or pause menu, or press F10.

  • Inventory profiles: personal rules, profile management and Storage reserves shared across your profiles.
  • Servicing: object policies, fuel/input permissions, thresholds and Refill Resin lighting.
  • Preferences: hotkeys, notifications, crafting, action options, Debug Logging, Storage range (m) and Service range (m). Both ranges default to 20 m and can be set from 2–50 m.

No config-file editing is required. Personal data lives under BepInEx/config/HearthLogistics/<character-ID>.json; main-menu defaults use menu.json. Chest rules live on the chest's ZDO, not in those personal files.

Multiplayer / Dedicated Servers

Hearth Logistics uses client code and existing Valheim networking, without custom server code or custom server RPC handlers. Other players do not need the mod merely to join or play. Compatible modded clients read shared chest configuration from its ZDO; personal profiles remain local.

In this build, Deposit and Restock accept configured multiplayer chests. Rebalance, servicing storage sources/output destinations and nearby-storage crafting still exclude configured multiplayer chests. Consequently, configured-storage Rebalance is single-player only. Shared-rule relay, server-restart persistence and cross-client behavior should be checked on your server; they are not a blanket compatibility guarantee.

Performance and limitations

Local container caches, separate source/destination routing and aggregated crafting resources avoid repeated full chest scans. Restock validates hinted sources first and checks additional cached containers incrementally when needed. Crafting previews reuse resource snapshots; transfers validate live contents.

Actions require nearby, loaded, accessible objects owned by the local client. Busy/inaccessible containers and tombstones are skipped. There is no unattended or offline automation.

Nearby-storage crafting excludes equipment upgrades, special upgrader stations, one-of-ingredient recipes and no-cost crafting modes. Output collection only recognizes processor drops observed this session. Servicing covers supported processor/fireplace objects, not every crafting station or production system.

Debugging and feedback

Under Preferences → Debug Logging, choose:

  • Off (default): routine diagnostics disabled; startup/error reporting remains.
  • Normal: major actions and committed changes.
  • Verbose: detailed rules, source decisions and performance summaries.

Logs are written to BepInEx/logs/HearthLogistics.log. With logging enabled, the chest panel also offers Dump Chest Debug and Refresh Logistics Panel.

Bugs, suggestions & feedback: Discord racidon.

For bug reports, include the Hearth Logistics, Valheim and BepInEx versions, what happened, and relevant HearthLogistics.log excerpts. Verbose logging can help reproduce a problem. No personal or private information is needed.
