The Reef's characters live on the server: your character is stored there, sent back when you join, one character per Steam account, rolling backups. Drop-in successor of ServerCharacters (same files). Server and clients.
Fewer losses after a crash: your character is now saved and sent to the server a few seconds after you close a chest or your pack (if something moved), and every 5 minutes if your inventory or a skill changed. Vanilla's 30-minute save still runs.
Server: at most one backup per character every 30 minutes, so the 25 copies cover many hours of play.
Built and tested on Valheim 1.0.16 (chest close, periodic save, forced crash then reconnect: items kept).

First build. Characters stored on the server (same files and format as ServerCharacters 1.4.16, so existing characters are read as they are), sent back at every join, pushed after every save, one character per Steam account, 25 rolling backups per character, refusal of a client without the mod. Valheim 1.0.7, Jötunn 2.30.0.
Not yet proven on the bench (see the design document in the server repository, docs/reefcharacters-v0.md §6).
