Riverheim
Riverheim is a mod that completely overhauls the world generation of Valheim.
!!CAUTION!! Possibility of world loss !!BETA DISCLAIMER!!
Riverheim is in testing until version 1.0.0. Making sure each of the billions of possible worlds generates well is difficult, so please have patience. It's quite likely that breaking changes will be introduced with 1.0 so please avoid overinvesting in building unless you're prepared to eat the risk.

Motivation
New terrain generation code found in the mod aims at improving variety, both in landmass size and shape, boosting replayability and providing more unique vistas for players to explore, all the while attempting to preserve the original feel and spirit of the game. Less obvious repetition and large-scale features like realistic rivers are also intended to help as landmarks during nomap playthroughs.

Features
- Landmasses are greater in variety, most worlds will have a few continents significantly larger than what was possible in vanilla, and multiple smaller islands too.
- Rivers no longer connect different parts of the sea with each other, but rather flow from somewhere within the land to the sea, gaining size as they get closer to the coast.
- Biomes have larger variation in size, from very small patches to very large. Biome placement rules are relaxed to prevent artifacts visible on the map.
- Many minor changes to smaller features like cliff faces, river canyons etc.
- Landforms are completely unique to each world unlike vanilla, there's no repetition at all.
Configuration
No configuration is available to the end user at the moment, just install the mod, create a new world and enjoy! For those willing to get involved, the sources are eventually going to become available.
Versioning Rules
Riverheim uses semantic versioning in the {major.minor.hotfix} form. Take care with existing worlds when updating the mod.
- major version updates will likely completely break existing worlds.
- minor version updates can include minor local heightmap changes that could damage builds but will most likely keep the worlds in a playable state.
- hotfix version updates should not change the worlds at all.
Performance
Dynamic chunk generation during gameplay is expected to be negligibly slower or in some cases even faster than vanilla. To achieve that, however, quite a bit of preprocessing has to be done which means you should expect to add a few seconds to the loading time.
Compatibility
The mod aims to make its changes to the game as localized as possible, making it highly compatible with most other mods. However, it is not compatible with mods that affect world generation like BetterContinents and probably never will be.
The mod is compatible with the Bog Witch major Valheim update. All the biomes and their features are fully compatible with two exceptions:
- Ashlands generation is almost completely identical to Vanilla, no changes made.
- Deep North is not supported and probably won't be until it's officially released. Don't go there.
