Auto POI Marker

Auto POI Marker

Auto POI Marker adds a local map pin when you reach a configured dungeon or progression landmark. The location name is shown once in the middle of the screen. Resources use Valheim's dot pin, dungeons and structures use the hammer, and Fire Geysers use the campfire.

What it marks

Every supported biome POI has its own setting in the configuration file. Biome markers are enabled by default.

Black Forest: Burial Chambers, Troll Caves, and Copper Deposits.

Swamp: Sunken Crypts and Fire Geysers.

Mountains: Frost Caves, Silver Veins, and Dragon Nests.

Plains: Fuling Villages, Tar Pits, Fuling Outposts, and Stone Towers.

Mistlands: Ancient Roots (Yggdrasil Roots), Infested Mines, Dvergr Outposts and Towers, Excavation Sites, Harbours, and Giant Remains.

Ashlands: Charred Fortresses, Putrid Holes, and Flametal Ore Veins.

Deep North: Abandoned Villages, Winding Tunnels, Gates of Morkhalla, and Jotun Invasions.

The separate Traders and Bosses section covers Haldor, Hildir, the Bog Witch, and boss locations across all biomes. Both switches are off by default.

Named portals can be marked separately. The Portals section has a MarkPortals switch, enabled by default. A portal with a non-empty name gets Valheim's portal pin and that name as its label. Existing portal pins are not duplicated. The pin is removed when the portal is destroyed, but stays on the map when its area unloads. If you remove a portal pin yourself, it stays hidden until you enter the portal name again, including after restarting the game.

Install

  1. Install BepInExPack Valheim with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman.
  2. Install this package.
  3. Start the game once to create BepInEx/config/rollstuhltreter.valheim.autopoimarker.cfg.

For a manual install, copy plugins/AutoPOIMarker.dll to BepInEx/plugins/.

Settings

The default detection radius is 50 metres. Each biome has its own section with an individual switch for every supported POI.

The Additional POIs section contains one AdditionalPoiNames field for extra location-name fragments separated by commas. These additions apply in every biome, so use specific prefab or location names.

The Display section has one MarkerOverrides field for individual pin choices. Enter comma-separated prefab names followed by a number: rock4_copper "1", SunkenCrypt4 "2". 1 is the dot, 2 the hammer, and 3 the campfire. A more specific name takes priority. Additional POIs without an override use the hammer.

Ancient Roots in the Mistlands use MarkYggdrasilRoots.

Performance

World locations are indexed gradually after a world loads. During play, the mod only checks the small cached area around the player after they have moved or a nearby server location has loaded. Server-loaded locations use the same cache and filters as local-world locations, even when the server does not expose a generated-world list to the client. It does not repeatedly search all world locations or Unity objects.

Multiplayer diagnostics

For troubleshooting only, set EnableDebugLogging = true in the [Debug] section. The plugin will write [POI Debug] entries to BepInEx/LogOutput.log while it indexes locations and processes server-loaded POIs. Turn the setting back off after collecting a log.

Multiplayer

This is a client-side mod. It only reads the local world's generated locations and writes pins to the local player's map. It does not need to be installed on the server.
