RustyHeathensServerQoL
Server-side Valheim QoL suite with auto doors, eternal fires and ovens, automatic processor feeding, matching-chest ground auto-store, and the Rusty Backpack.Rusty Heathens Server QoL
A server-side-only Valheim quality-of-life suite built for the Rusty Heathens community. Players do not need to install this package on their PCs.
What's new in 0.5.1
Rusty Backpack
The Rusty Backpack is now part of RustyHeathensServerQoL and is enabled by default.
Default backpack behavior:
- Use the Wave emote to open it.
- Starts with 16 slots.
- Gains 8 additional slots per recognized defeated boss by default.
- Storage is linked to the player and intended to persist across reconnects.
- Non-teleportable items are rejected from the backpack.
- On normal death, backpack contents are intended to move to a separate Rusty Backpack tombstone.
- No separate client-side backpack mod is required.
Argus Backpack migration protection
Rusty Backpack includes a hard conflict guard for ArgusMagnus.ServersideQoL.Backpack.
If the Argus Backpack add-on is still loaded, the Rusty Backpack module will not activate even though Rusty Backpack defaults to ON. The other RustyHeathensServerQoL modules can continue running.
Do not migrate while players still have items in the old Argus backpack.
Before replacing the Argus Backpack on an existing server:
- Have every player log in and empty the old Argus backpack completely.
- Make a normal server/world backup.
- Remove the
ArgusMagnus.ServersideQoL.Backpackadd-on. - Install/update RustyHeathensServerQoL.
- Start the server and test the Rusty Backpack with disposable items before normal play resumes.
Features
Auto Doors
Automatically closes supported vanilla/buildable doors after the configured delay.
Default delay: 5 seconds.
Eternal Fires and Ovens
Keeps fireplace fuel and fuel-burning cooking stations/ovens fueled without consuming additional player fuel. Normal environmental and cooking behavior remains Valheim-controlled.
Auto Process
Automatically feeds compatible Smelter-class processing stations from nearby eligible player-built containers.
Default behavior includes:
- 4 meter source-container range.
- Uses the processor's real configured fuel and valid processable inputs.
- Leaves at least 1 matching fuel/input item in the source chest by default.
- Uses transfer throttles for safety.
- Does not change processing speed, recipes, capacity, or output items.
Matching-Chest Ground Auto Store
Automatically moves eligible world drops into a nearby player-built chest that already contains the same item.
Default behavior includes:
- 20 meter search range.
- Matching chests only.
- A short player pickup protection window for newly dropped items.
- Dedicated-server peer/ZDO discovery so freshly processed outputs can be handled server-side.
Installation
Dedicated server
Install RustyHeathensServerQoL on the Valheim dedicated server only. Players do not need this mod on their clients.
With Thunderstore/r2modman, install the package into the server profile. For manual installation, place RustyHeathensServerQoL.dll under the server's BepInEx/plugins directory.
Restart the server after updating and review the BepInEx log for:
Rusty Heathens Server QoL 0.5.1
Important Backpack migration note
If you currently use ArgusMagnus.ServersideQoL.Backpack, leave it installed until everybody has removed their stored items. Do not assume items from the Argus backpack will migrate into the Rusty Backpack automatically.
Once all old backpacks are empty, remove the Argus Backpack add-on before installing this release on the live server.

Compatibility
Do not run another server mod that performs the same automatic storage/processor actions unless one side of the overlapping feature is disabled.
The Rusty Backpack specifically guards against the ArgusMagnus Backpack add-on, but a clean migration is still required before the first live use.
