Just a cardboard box. Added Detailed Description.Sakey's Sneaking BoxðŠ

Hey. âŠKept you waiting, huh?
I recently got myself a cardboard box.
âYou mean⊠just a box?ðŠâ
Well, yeah⊠but apparently, it's indispensable in a certain world. Taking a page from his book, I went on a little solo infiltration mission into the Black Forest.
So, what do you think?
Strange, isn't it? Nobody seems to notice me.
Every now and then, I'd deliberately stand up, then immediately crouch back down and return to the box just to mess with the Greydwarfs. I mean, all I did was get inside a cardboard box, yet even when I'm this close, they lose sight of me almost immediately.
Could this really be the legendary cardboard box I've heard so much about?
âWhat? You think it won't work on bosses?â
I don't know.
Their biology is shrouded in mystery.
At the very least, the Elder and Moder both narrowed their eyes and stared right at me.
Still, getting inside a cardboard box right in front of a boss is the kind of thing that would probably get you a, âAre you kidding me?â
I've only ever operated on solo missions.
But if you're able to form a team and carry out missions together, it might be fun to give it a try. I'd love to hear how they reacted. I'll even show you how to make one and how to get them into the merchant's supply chain. Here you go.
âŠHuh?
You want to know how a cardboard box can be made from a sea serpent?
Well, isn't it obvious?
Come on, you know the answer.ð
Besides, if you've come to this world, you have to learn how to desperately run for your life through the Black Forest while being chased by trolls and hordes of dwarfs, right?
It's a rite of passage for everyone.

Oh, and the merchant sells them, too.
But they're 500 coins.
You can either set sail and hunt down a sea serpent,
or save up your coins and set out on a journey to find the merchant.
The choice is yours.
A simple boat won't keep you alive for long, and saving up 500 coins can be quite a chore.
F1?âš
âŠWell, do whatever you like.
You remember that snake who escaped from that cell, right? He used a cardboard box to help keep himself warm. Pretty good insulation, after all.
ââOh, right. One more thing. When your stamina runs out, you won't be able to stand up and put the cardboard box over yourself.
Can't be helped. Sneak gets canceled, so you can't crawl along the floor like a snake. You get it, right? That's just how it works.
Oh, and one more thing. Be careful around bodies of water that look shallow enough to cross. The cardboard box is waterproof, but if the water is too deep for your feet to touch the bottom, you can't keep it over yourself.
###That's right. It's a feature. Just⊠work with it, okay?
This is what happened when I went on a solo infiltration mission into the Ashlands earlier, energy drink in hand.
Oh, don't worry, I know.
You want to try it yourself, right?
If you don't want to know what happens, you don't have to watch.
Ah, almost forgot.
There's a chance that people who have been reincarnated into this other world might not actually be able to hide properly inside the cardboard box.
This cardboard box was made for the people of this world, and apparently nobody from another world has tried using one yet.
Why not give it a try? I'd like to know too, whether you actually disappear from sight⊠or whether it doesn't work.
ESP?
Oh, yeah. Apparently there's some amazing thing that lets you investigate things in great detail.
But I'd rather enjoy this without knowing all the answers.
If you're curious, go ahead and get inside the cardboard box and find out for yourself.
Just be careful with your stamina. That noisy quack on the radio told you about it, didn't he?
#Well then, good luck.
#I wish you success on your mission.
After extracting the ZIP file, place the folder in BepInEx/plugins.
ãHow to Useã
1. Equip the cardboard box.
2. Crouch.
That's it!
Slopes can be a little tricky, though.
It's just a box, but out in the field, it's a reliable ally.
Use it wisely.
ãDetailed Descriptionã
Sorry for the overly MGS-flavored description. (lol)
Let me add a few more details.
However, I think this joke mod becomes less fun if you know too much about how it works, so this section is only for those who want to know more.
Wanna read it? (lol)
If you're familiar with Valheim's enemy AI, you probably already know that enemies have detection abilities such as sight and hearing. With this cardboard box, however, both stealth and noise can be completely eliminated.
However, the effect only applies while you are actually wearing the cardboard box. In this mod, the cardboard box is equipped as a utility item, and when you crouch, your character is replaced by the cardboard box.
Inspired by the cardboard box from a certain Snake Eater, including its ability to provide insulation and the way it supposedly puts out flames quickly when it catches fire, I also added Frost Resistance and Fire Resistance.
However, these effects do not activate simply by equipping the box. They only activate while you are crouching and actually hiding inside the cardboard box. Taking damage will also cancel your sneak, so naturally, all of the effects will disappear as well.
That's something I refuse to compromise on, because it's supposed to be a convenient but far-from-perfect cardboard box. (lol)
The tests are shown in the screenshots and videos included with the description above. Since these were tests, I deliberately stood up and did things to get detected, but every enemy quickly lost sight of me.
But what about bosses? I've heard that boss AI works differently from normal enemies, so I actually went out wearing the cardboard box to test this myself. At first, I expected the cardboard box to have absolutely no effect on bosses, but this is what happened during the boss fight.
To add a little context, in my world, I use the MOD "SpawnThat" to make friendly Dvergr spawn in every biome.
Because of this, as soon as the boss was summoned, it targeted the Dvergr instead of me. During that time, the stealth UI showed the "cross-shaped" state indicating that I was completely undetected, rather than the usual "narrow eyes" state indicating that the enemy was suspicious. After the Dvergr was killed, the boss came toward me. However, it never returned from the "narrow eyes" state to the completely undetected state.
The same thing happened when I later tested The Elder and Bonemass. When I was wearing the cardboard box, they first tried to find another enemy to target. After killing that target, they came over to the player.
(Though in Bonemass's case, he was constantly spewing poison, and getting too close caused poison damage that broke my sneak, so I dealt with him pretty quickly... (lol) ð€£)
In other words, when a boss encounters a player wearing the cardboard box, it is definitely possible to observe them looking for another enemy to target instead of immediately attacking the player.
The reason I wrote that I'd really like people to try this in a team rather than doing solo infiltration like I did is because of this boss behavior. If everyone in multiplayer were wearing cardboard boxes, what kind of detection behavior would occur?
Would the boss switch between looking at each player? Or would everyone get attacked? What if only one player wasn't wearing a cardboard box?
I'm curious myself, but I'm a completely solo player. I haven't even been able to test whether this works properly in multiplayer, so if anyone wants to try it, please give it a shot.
I thought it might also be useful for retrieving your items after dying, and it actually proved pretty useful in Mistlands mines as well. These were just tests, so I deliberately behaved in ways that would get me detected, but it seems like it could be quite useful when searching for your items in those damn mines full of Seekers.
Of course, Mistlands itself has terrain that makes you break your sneak constantly, so it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of using it there.
If you like, give it a try. Moving around slowly while wearing a cardboard box creates an absolutely ridiculous sight. I'm not sure whether it's suitable for streamers, but I had a lot of fun wandering around with it during my tests. You can observe enemies that you normally can't get close enough to watch peacefully, and since enemies won't come after you while you're wearing the cardboard box, you can take your time placing pins on the map without having to panic.
Oh, and fish normally swim away when they hear your footsteps, but try wearing the cardboard box when heading toward a fishing spot.
Try finding all sorts of ridiculous uses for this stupid cardboard box. I'm sure there are still plenty of useful ways to use it that I haven't thought of.
Based on the test results, I decided that it would be bad for the game's balance if this became obtainable too early in the game, so the merchant purchase price is set to 500 coins. But you can change it through the Configuration Manager. (lol)
In other words, if you really wanted to, you could summon Haldor with a command right from the beginning and buy the box for 1 coin. (lol) Honestly, I'd kind of like to see that too â playing through the game with this cardboard box from the very beginning.
If you're interested, give it a try.
ãCompatibility with Player Model Mods such as VRMã
Compatibility with mods that change the player's model, such as VRM mods, has not been tested.
This mod hides the normal player model when you enter the cardboard box.
Therefore, if you are using a mod that displays the player model through a different method, the character may remain visible inside the cardboard box and the hiding effect may not work correctly.
If you have any information about how this mod behaves in a VRM environment, I'd love to hear about it.
If you enjoy the mod, consider buying me a real-life energy drink.
