StarNavCompass
A simple true compass for map-free play: raise it from the hotbar, the needle settles on true north. 16-point rose, no HUD clutter.StarNav Compass
A simple, true compass for Valheim — for playing without the map.
- Craft it at a workbench (default: 1 Bronze + 2 Fine Wood; configurable).
- Use it from the hotbar. Press its key and the compass rises into your hand; press again to put it away. The needle gets a jolt, swings about and settles on true north (the map's north) in a few seconds. Standing still it holds steady; walking makes it tremble; running shakes it — stop to read it.
- Sixteen-point rose: N, NNE, NE … so you can tell a friend "the crypt is north-northwest of the big
rock" instead of quoting numbers. Degrees stay off unless you enable
ShowDegrees. - No HUD clutter by default. Optional
HudStripmode lets you wear it in the utility slot for a permanent heading strip at the top of the screen instead. - Optional:
Yggdrasil = DimorHidetones down the world tree that fills the sky.
Client-side; nothing is written to the save. In multiplayer every player who wants to see the item needs the mod.
Install
Thunderstore / r2modman: install as usual. Manual: drop StarNav.dll into BepInEx/plugins/StarNav/.
Config is created on first launch at BepInEx/config/serge.starnav.cfg.
Console (chat window, /starnav …)
/starnav hud toggle the HUD-strip mode
/starnav tod 0.9 preview a time of day on your client only (off: /starnav tod off)
(EnableConsole = true in the config also enables the F5 console without -console.)
Experimental
The mod also contains a real, world-fixed star sky (Hipparcos catalog, seasons, twinkling, meteors)
that is off by default (StarSky = false) while rendering issues on current Valheim builds are
being worked out. Enable it at your own risk; the compass does not depend on it.
Building from source
.NET SDK 6+; dotnet build -c Release (see build.cmd). References are taken from the Steam install and
the default Thunderstore profile; override with -p:VALHEIM_INSTALL=... -p:BEPINEX_DIR=....
