Ridgewarden
Flat thatch, shingle and grausten roofs with normal Hammer placement and 2m snapping. Beta by SmeagsMods.Ridgewarden
Dedicated flat roofs for Valheim by SmeagsMods.
Ridgewarden adds three normally placeable, 2 x 2 metre roof pieces to the Hammer:
| Piece | Vanilla source | Build category |
|---|---|---|
| Flat thatch roof | Thatch roof 26° (wood_roof) |
Original wooden building category |
| Flat shingle roof | Shingle roof 26° (darkwood_roof) |
Original wooden building category |
| Flat grausten roof | Grausten roof 45° (piece_grausten_roof_45) |
Original stone building category |
Each keeps its original recipe, crafting station, unlock requirements, materials, durability, structural material, weather properties, damage states and snow visuals. Four level corner snaps use the normal 2 metre building grid. Vanilla roofs remain unchanged. The Hammer icons currently reuse their source roof icons; the names identify the flat variants.
The installed vanilla asset inventory contained 12 thatch roof shapes, 12 shingle roof shapes and 6 grausten roof shapes, plus 28 roof-shaped wall fillers. This mod provides one square flat panel per roofing material, rather than duplicates of each slope, ridge and corner.
Installation
Requires BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351 or newer. Install the package through a mod manager, or copy plugins/Ridgewarden/Ridgewarden.dll into BepInEx/plugins/Ridgewarden/.
Use the Hammer with the resources and crafting station required by the corresponding original roof. Find Flat thatch roof, Flat shingle roof, or Flat grausten roof in the original roof's building category. Rotate and snap as with other square building pieces. No rotation mod or additional crafting mod is required.
Beta testing
Version 0.1.0 is a testing build. Read TESTING.md for the recorded checks and remaining gates. Automated native tests cover full-process restart persistence, roof cover, rain protection and unsupported collapse. Physical Hammer interaction, appearance at different weather/wear states, structural span limits, compatibility with other building mods and multiplayer still need hands-on confirmation before a public release claim.
Roof coverage does not by itself guarantee the full Sheltered status: the game's normal surrounding-cover rules still apply. Flat roofs retain normal structural requirements.
Back up saves before testing custom building pieces. Keep this mod installed when loading worlds containing its roofs. Removing it makes those custom prefab identities unavailable; do not save a world with missing pieces. To uninstall safely, dismantle the Ridgewarden pieces while the mod is installed, save, then remove the DLL. All players and a dedicated server should have matching mod versions; network compatibility has not been certified.
Technical details
Ridgewarden clones installed vanilla prefabs at runtime. A transform hierarchy levels their visuals while preserving the 2 x 2 metre footprint. New flat collision slabs and level snap points apply only to the clones. Meshes, textures and materials remain shared read-only vanilla assets. No extracted game assets are included in the package.
