SnakeTography
SnakeSquad's Valheim mods: Cartography Tables show the group's shared map (pannable, zoomable, sharp detail), plus map-marker commands for adding spots to it.SnakeTography
SnakeSquad's Valheim mods, in one package:
- Cartography Snapshot: Cartography Tables show the group's shared map.
- Coordinate Marker: console commands for noting spots to add to that map.
Made for SnakeSquad players: the map comes from the SnakeSquad map server, and this package comes with the server key already filled in.
Cartography Snapshot
In No Map worlds, using a Cartography Table's read side opens a full-screen, pannable, zoomable view of the group's map, with a dot where you're standing.
Walk up to a Cartography Table and read it.
- Scroll: zoom (up to 8x)
- Left-drag: pan
- R: reset the view
- E, Escape, or a left-click: close. Walking away from the table closes it too.
While the map is open you can still walk with WASD, but the mouse belongs to the map: no turning, attacking or camera zoom.
Zoomed in, the map sharpens using detail tiles the mod downloads in the background and saves on your PC, starting as soon as the game launches. After the first download, only the parts of the map that changed are fetched again.
Press Record Discoveries on a table to check for map changes right away. You'll see "Map updated" or "Map up to date" in the corner.
Settings
The Snapshot Key, Access Client Id and Access Client Secret fill
themselves in on first launch from the snapshot-credentials.txt that comes
with this package. A value you set yourself is never replaced. Everything is adjustable in the
Configuration Manager
under SnakeSquad Cartography Snapshot, or in
BepInEx/config/com.snakesquad.cartographysnapshot.cfg. If you edit the file
while the game is running, use the Reload Config From Disk button.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Snapshot URL | SnakeSquad map server | Where the map comes from. Empty turns the mod off. |
| Only In No Map Mode | on | Only take over tables in No Map worlds. |
| Show Player Marker | on | Show where you're standing. |
| Auto-Close Distance | 10 | Close the map when you walk this many meters from the table. |
| Download Map Detail On Startup | on | Start downloading detail at launch instead of at the first table. |
| Request Timeout Seconds | 15 | How long to wait for the map image. |
| Verbose Tile Logging | off | Detailed download logging, for troubleshooting. |
Coordinate Marker
Open the console (F5) and use:
mark <note>: save your current position with a notemarklist: show saved marksmarkexport: copy all marks to the clipboard asnote|x,zpairs (your in-game coordinates, unchanged), ready to paste into the map's Add Valheim markers window. Leave its "invert Z" box ticked. Add-dto clear them afterwards.markclear: discard all marks
Marks only live in memory until exported or cleared.
Biome mark hotkey (unbound until you set one): in the Configuration
Manager under SnakeSquad Coordinate Marker → 1 - Biome Mark Hotkey, set
Hotkey. Each press adds a mark named after the biome, like
Black Forest. By default it marks the spot under your crosshair, up to 100 m
away (Max Look Distance), or where you're standing if nothing's in range.
Turn off Mark At Crosshair to always mark where you're standing.
North Wisp (an item): craft it like a Wisplight, from the same materials at the same station. It's a one-handed throwing weapon that needs no ammo and is never used up: it sits in your hand as a small glowing lantern and equips at once, like any weapon. Friends without this mod can't load the item itself, so keep it in your own inventory rather than shared chests.
- Attack (left click): you throw it like a bomb. The wisp flies out ahead of you, wobbles about as if lost, gets its bearings, then heads north (the top of the map), drifts there a few seconds and fades away. Costs a little stamina (5).
- Secondary attack (middle mouse): press once and you stand still while the wisp gathers in your hand, growing, with a glow and a shimmer. When the charge is full (0.8 s) it chimes softly and brightens, then you throw it like a spear and it arcs toward your crosshair like a thrown grenade, landing where you aim up to about 40 m away (throw it at a slope or a wall to get it further), clearing Mistlands mist along its path. A proximity fuse sets it off as soon as it passes within 4 m of a hostile creature. Otherwise it bounces where it lands, then bursts like a flashbang: a blinding flash and a camera shake if you're close (players with this mod see and feel it too), hostile creatures within 9 m staggered for about 4 s (not bosses), a little spirit damage, a glow on each of them so you can see what was out there, and a wide patch of cleared mist. The wisp lingers there a moment before fading. Get staggered and the charge fizzles.
- The charged cast costs a lot of stamina (twice a Bronze Atgeir's sweep) and no eitr, a bit cheaper as your Elemental Magic rises, and it trains Elemental Magic when the burst hits an enemy, like a staff. (An Eitr cost can be set in the config.)
- Spirit damage mostly hurts the undead; other creatures shrug it off but still light up.
- Its sounds are quiet and fade with distance (none past 40 m), and none of them is a potion's sound.
Everyone sees the wisp in your hand and in flight, even friends without this mod, along with your throwing animations; like a Wisplight's wisp it clears mist around itself for everyone. Turn off Visible To Others to make it yours alone (then the wisp itself doesn't clear mist). The lantern, the hand and target glows and the lasting mist trail are only seen by players with the mod (the trail only by you). Sounds and effects that the game itself shares are heard and seen by everyone.
Settings: throw distance, hover height, lifetime, Visible To Others and throw stamina under 2 - North Wisp; charge time, stamina, eitr, skill, speed, gravity, proximity fuse, range, bounces, burst radius, damage, stun time, flash brightness, camera shake, mist, glow and mist trail time under 3 - North Wisp Charged Cast (Enabled off turns the secondary attack off); and the sounds and effects, Sound Volume and Sound Range under 4 - North Wisp Effects. Those are vanilla effect names, comma-separated, first found is used; clear one to turn it off.
Troubleshooting
- "Map snapshot key is missing or wrong": check Snapshot Key (see Settings) against the one you were given.
- "Map access token is missing or wrong": check Access Client Id and Access Client Secret. The map server is behind Cloudflare Access, which turns away requests without them.
- Something else: send
BepInEx/LogOutput.logfrom your mod manager profile folder (Settings → Browse profile folder) to whoever runs the map. Copy it before restarting the game, since it's overwritten each launch.
Saved map detail lives in BepInEx/cache/SnakeSquadCartographySnapshot/. It's
safe to delete; it re-downloads.
