SkillLimitExtender Damage Patch

A damage-scaling patch for SkillLimitExtender 1.2.0 on Valheim 1.0.x.

SkillLimitExtender allows skills to progress beyond level 100, but vanilla weapon damage normally stops scaling at the vanilla skill limit. This patch extends skill-based damage scaling beyond level 100 and provides configurable controls for both the vanilla 0-100 damage progression and the extended 100+ progression.

Features

  • Extends skill-based weapon damage scaling beyond skill level 100.
  • Keeps the displayed weapon damage range and actual hit damage on the same calculation.
  • Configurable damage progression from skill level 0 to 100.
  • Configurable exponential damage scaling above level 100.
  • Uses the configured level-100 damage as the baseline for all levels above 100.
  • Default settings preserve vanilla damage scaling through level 100.

Requirements

  • BepInExPack for Valheim
  • SkillLimitExtender 1.2.0
  • On Valheim 1.0.x, SkillLimitExtender also requires a compatible Valheim 1.0 compatibility patch.

Configuration

The configuration file is created after the first launch:

BepInEx/config/alex.skilllimitextenderdamagepatch.cfg

VanillaDamageMultiplier

Controls how much of the vanilla skill-based damage increase is applied between levels 0 and 100.

  • 1.0 = full vanilla damage increase.
  • 0.5 = skills provide 50% of their normal additional damage.
  • 0.0 = skill level does not increase the center damage factor.

This setting does not multiply the entire weapon damage. It changes only the damage increase contributed by skill levels.

Formula:

center = 0.4 + 0.6 * (level / 100)^VanillaDamageExponent * VanillaDamageMultiplier

VanillaDamageExponent

Controls the shape of the damage progression between levels 0 and 100.

  • 1.0 = vanilla progression shape.
  • Above 1.0 = slower increase at lower skill levels, with more of the increase occurring near level 100.
  • Below 1.0 = faster increase at lower skill levels.

Formula:

progression = (level / 100)^VanillaDamageExponent

ReferenceSkillLevel

Sets the skill level at which the extended damage curve reaches ReferenceDamageMultiplier.

For example:

ReferenceSkillLevel = 200
ReferenceDamageMultiplier = 1.5

means that skill level 200 uses 1.5x the configured level-100 damage.

ReferenceDamageMultiplier

Sets the damage multiplier reached at ReferenceSkillLevel.

The extended curve is exponential:

extendedMultiplier = (level / 100)^exponent

exponent =
    ln(ReferenceDamageMultiplier)
    /
    ln(ReferenceSkillLevel / 100)

The configured level-100 damage range is used as the baseline, so changes made with VanillaDamageMultiplier and VanillaDamageExponent are automatically carried into the extended levels.

Default extended damage scaling

With the default extended settings:

ReferenceSkillLevel = 200
ReferenceDamageMultiplier = 1.5

the exponent is approximately 0.58496.

The table below shows the multiplier relative to the configured damage at skill level 100:

Skill level    Max Damage Multiplier
    100                1.000x
    110                1.057x
    120                1.113x
    130                1.166x
    140                1.218x
    150                1.268x
    160                1.316x
    170                1.364x
    180                1.410x
    190                1.456x
    200                1.500x
    250                1.710x
    300                1.902x
    400                2.250x
    500                2.564x

For example, at the default settings, level 150 deals about 1.268x the configured level-100 damage, while level 200 deals exactly 1.5x.

These values scale the complete level-100 damage range, so the minimum and maximum damage continue increasing together rather than collapsing into a single value.

Default configuration

[Damage]

ReferenceSkillLevel = 200
ReferenceDamageMultiplier = 1.5
VanillaDamageMultiplier = 1.0
VanillaDamageExponent = 1.0

With VanillaDamageMultiplier = 1.0 and VanillaDamageExponent = 1.0, damage progression from skill level 0 through 100 remains vanilla. Extended scaling begins above level 100.

Installation

Install through a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager, or place the plugin DLL in:

BepInEx/plugins/

Make sure SkillLimitExtender and its required Valheim 1.0 compatibility patch are installed.
