Races Of Valheim AzuEPI Patch

A client-side compatibility patch that fixes AzuExtendedPlayerInventory's 3D inventory preview, making it display your Races of Valheim character model instead of the vanilla Viking.

Without this patch, the character can have the correct race appearance in the world and character selection screen while AzuEPI's inventory preview still shows the vanilla Viking model.

Recommended companion mod

For an improved Skeleton body model, see SkeletonBetterModels.

Additional race appearance features

The mod also contains several visual improvements that are not directly related to the AzuEPI compatibility patch:

  • Player ragdolls preserve the visible Races of Valheim appearance instead of reverting to the vanilla Viking model after death.
  • (Alpha) Skeleton characters receive small visibility controls on their equipped helmet, chest armour, and leg armour.
  • The controls appear only on items that are actually equipped and allow the player to restore armour portions normally hidden by the Skeleton appearance.
  • Enabled Skeleton armour portions are also preserved on the resulting ragdoll.
  • A context-sensitive control in the inventory can disable the damaging passive aura of Skeleton, Skadi, Aswid, or Trenta characters. Draugh characters receive the same control for their purely visual stench cloud.
  • Skeleton characters can select any previously unlocked body model instead of being forced to use the latest progression appearance. This changes visuals only; current progression bonuses remain intact.

These additional features may be moved into a separate Races of Valheim visual patch mod in the future.

Installation

Install with r2modman, Gale, or Thunderstore Mod Manager. The required versions of Races of Valheim and AzuExtendedPlayerInventory are installed automatically.

For manual installation, copy RacesOfValheimAzuEPICompat.dll into your BepInEx/plugins directory. Both original mods are required.

Notes

  • Client-side only; installation on a dedicated server is unnecessary.
  • Skeleton armour visibility choices are saved per character and synchronized as small visual-only player flags so other clients with the patch can display the same appearance.
  • The armour controls are event-driven: no per-frame or periodic inventory scan is performed.
  • Race-option controls are built when the inventory opens. Their choices are saved per character; aura checks add only a boolean guard to the original race ability calls.
  • Ragdoll appearances are captured once when a player dies; no background polling is used for this feature.
  • Deaths during temporary creature transformations use the race's ordinary player appearance on the ragdoll.
  • Tested with Races of Valheim 1.4.11 and AzuExtendedPlayerInventory 2.4.6.

Known issues

  • On a cold game launch, a replaced Skeleton model may still appear as the original model in the main-menu character preview. Entering a world once refreshes the prefab state, after which the replaced model appears correctly in the menu. The in-world model and AzuEPI preview are unaffected.

Support

This mod was created for a private modded playthrough. Updates are planned while I am actively playing with this mod.
