Valheim Mastery
Grow through 21 skills, master magic and Prayer, take on Slayer contracts and earn animated capes and sails. Build a shared village, recall following animals and join an optional community leaderboard. English/German.Valheim Mastery — 0.17.6
Make the things you enjoy in Valheim part of your character's story. Fighting, building, gathering and sailing all develop their own skills, with new abilities and equipment to work towards. Mastery brings 21 skills, Prayer, Slayer contracts, magic and animated mastery capes to your world, with English and German text.
Inspired by Old School RuneScape's long-term progression, adapted to Valheim's survival and co-op play. This independent fan-made mod is not affiliated with or endorsed by Jagex.
Your village, your voyages, your followers
Build around the Construction board. Stations inside its shared area provide their building access throughout that area. With optional AzuCraftyBoxes, accessible chests share the reach too. Construction milestones expand this area instead of your personal placement distance.
The area starts at 20m. Construction 10/30/50/70/90 unlocks 25m each; upgrading with the Construction cape adds 100m, up to 245m. Set the radius at the board. Saved expansions remain after taking off the cape, and larger legacy areas are preserved. Without a board, normal station and configured chest ranges apply.
Choose Building area → Refill all fires and lamps to pay for fuel from your inventory first, then eligible area chests. Reserves are respected. Full or unsuitable sources, smelters and kilns are skipped. This is a one-time refill, not automatic fuel generation.
Take your mastery out to sea: Shift + E at the ship's controls opens sail selection. A skill at 100 unlocks its design; all 21 skills at 100 unlock eight Apex styles. The animated tree lights up from roots to branches, followed by its skill symbols. Ship handling and storage stay the same. Shift + E at a chest sets a reserve that crafting with AzuCraftyBoxes leaves behind. Manual withdrawals remain possible.
Build a Home-return post from the hammer menu for 10 Wood, 5 Stone and 1 Surtling Core. E binds it as your personal destination; Shift + E clears the binding. Use the Construction cape's Return home through Alt + F1 with a hammer or the board. Its requirements and six-minute cooldown remain. Your respawn bed is unchanged; without a marker binding, home return uses the selected bed again.
Hunting leaves movable carcasses to skin: 30 supported carcass species, including bears and deathsquitos. They settle on the ground and can be nudged; skinning rewards stay the same. Birds keep their native drops.
Shift + T whistles for existing animals that follow your character, even from unloaded parts of the same world. Waiting, foreign-following, ridden or otherwise unsuitable animals stay behind. Older unassigned animals may need Stay → Follow once. Each arrival needs safe nearby space; incomplete recalls report the missing animals. T alone keeps its normal action.
Supported natural enemy points, nests and loot renew after five in-game days, subject to nearby-player and player-building protection. This is not a full dungeon reset: layouts, destroyed village buildings and destroyed chests are not rebuilt. Permanently deleted old sources cannot return. Bosses, pets and arbitrary mod creatures are not automatically included. Natural chests retain existing contents; observed player deposits exclude them from future refills.
Progression, combat and magic
All 21 skills share a curve: 1,439,116 XP for level 100, then up to 200 million XP per skill. Open Skills and select a skill to see its milestones.
| Skills | |
|---|---|
| Combat | Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic |
| Gathering | Mining, Woodcutting, Foraging, Hunter, Fishing |
| Production | Smithing, Crafting, Farming, Cooking, Alchemy |
| Exploration and building | Agility, Sailing, Construction |
| Other paths | Slayer, Prayer |
Choose combat styles, take Slayer contracts alone or with a partner, and unlock 30 prayers. Combat level combines Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints and Prayer, up to 126. Master each skill for its cape; all 21 at 100 unlock the Apex cape. Older saved Apex entitlements remain. Cape effects and cooldowns appear in the buff bar.
Rune spells and the Runebound Staff's four Eitr-powered area spells offer different ways to fight. Fire spells retain visible burning and damage over time. Revised damage and staff scaling give early magic a useful starting point without making starter spells the strongest endgame choice. Staves, projectiles, round runestones, skill icons, Slayer helmet eyes and Apex effects have been refreshed. The Root Rune bears a sprouting seed and roots.
High Alchemy: open the Magic menu and select it at Magic 55. Choose an eligible inventory item, check its coin value, then confirm Transmute exactly 1. Each cast consumes that item, 5 Ember Runes, 1 Root Rune and 20 Eitr, awards 65 base Magic XP before your multiplier, and has a three-second interval. Ordinary Mastery and other mod items can be eligible. Equipped items, quest objects and coins stay protected. Check the displayed value: conversion is permanent.
Foraging gradually expands automatic loose-item pickup to 300% of the normal radius at 100; it does not extend plant picking. Smithing 20/40/60/80/100 adds 20/40/60/80/100% to smelter and kiln capacity, without free fuel. New Agility XP is now 20% of the previous amount, including XP beyond 100. Existing XP, levels and movement bonuses stay intact.
Getting started
BepInEx is the only required external mod. Use BepInExPack_Valheim 5.4.2350 with Windows/Steam Valheim 1.0.16; 1.0.15 is also accepted. Install with a compatible mod manager, or copy this archive's plugins/ValheimMastery/ contents to BepInEx/plugins/ValheimMastery/ after installing BepInEx.
The package contains Core 0.17.6 (ValheimMastery.dll), WorldFeatures 1.0.0 and HuntingPhysics 1.0.1. Update all three together on every client and the server, while the game/server is stopped. Remove older duplicate copies. Back up characters, worlds and the entire BepInEx/config/ValheimMastery/ directory, including journals. Downgrading needs a matching complete backup, not just an older DLL.
New profiles use XP ×1; existing progress and settings remain. The host supplies [Progression] CombatXpMultiplier in BepInEx/config/org.valheim.mastery.cfg. BetterUI, Equipment and Quick Slots and AzuCraftyBoxes are optional. AzuCraftyBoxes must be enabled for area-chest crafting and reserves; inventory-only board refilling works without it. With BetterUI, use customSkillUI = true. The optional Comfort Pack adds UI and building conveniences.
Optional equipment quality, NPC equipment drops and Dyrnwyn's Special are off on fresh profiles and can be enabled in Mastery's configuration. Keep gameplay rules consistent on clients/server. Do not also load the replaced Mining, Lumberjacking, Blacksmithing, Farming, Foraging, Cooking or Sailing skill mods.
Useful defaults: F1 combat style, Q/F2 use/choose a sense, F5/F4 rune spellbook/cycle spells, F3 Runebound spell selection. Select Lower ground in the hoe menu; G toggles its terrain grid. Many Mastery shortcuts are configurable.
The first leaderboard invitation lets you accept or decline; change your choice under Skills → Leaderboard. Joining publishes your chosen character name and 21 XP values. The board has overall/skill rankings and profile details; its website button opens your external browser only when clicked. Keep your recovery code private and use leave/delete to remove your public profile. This is a self-reported Community leaderboard, not cheat-proof competition. Standard and Test/multiplier boards are separate.
Mastery keeps an additional local character backup after a healthy save. Mastery recovery in the inventory lets you review missing progress and held Mastery items before confirming any restoration. Chests and graves are excluded. The MasteryRecovery folder is not automatically synced by Steam Cloud; keep full character/world backups too. Optional balancing telemetry stays locally under BepInEx/ValheimMastery/balancing. [Diagnostics] EnableBalanceTelemetry = false stops future recording.
Automatic foundation terrain adjustment and prebuilt village blueprints remain disabled. The reported following-animal portal problem is not fixed by this release; the whistle is a separate action. Other mods and unusual multiplayer situations can still need compatibility work.
Report bugs or balancing feedback with versions, relevant mods, XP multiplier and reproduction steps. Remove private paths and server details from log excerpts. See NOTICE.md for asset and compatibility notices.
Deutsch
Mach das, was dir an Valheim Spaß macht, zum Teil deines Charakters. Kämpfen, Bauen, Sammeln und Segeln entwickeln eigene Fertigkeiten weiter. Mastery ergänzt 21 Skills, Gebete, Slayer-Aufträge, Magie und animierte Meisterschaftsumhänge. Inspiriert von Old School RuneScapes langfristigem Fortschritt, angepasst an Valheim.
Standardtasten: F1 Kampfstil, Q/F2 Ortung nutzen/wählen, F5/F4 Runenzauberbuch/Zauberwechsel, F3 Runebound-Zauberwechsel.
