COOKING COMPATIBILITY

MORE USES FOR YOUR HARVEST

Bring ingredients from different mods to the same table.

Cooking Compatibility connects selected ingredients from CookingAdditions, BoneAppetit, Odin's Hares and RtDOcean. It adds preparation choices for existing foods, a hare conversion for the CookingAdditions griller and optional drying-rack material support. Your original recipes, food stats and cooking bonuses stay with their authors.

Compatibility / v0.1.9
Built against Valheim 1.0.16 with BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351. Reviewed with CookingAdditions 1.3.3, BoneAppetit 3.3.16, OdinsHares 1.3.4, RtDOcean 2.2.49 and Recycle N Reclaim 1.4.5. Content mods remain optional. Drying-rack storage integration optionally uses RunicCrafting 1.1.8 with RunicStorage 1.3.8, or RunicCrafting 1.1.11 with RunicStorage 1.3.12 and AdventureBackpacks 2.1.13 or 2.2.1. Requires ConditionalConfigSync 1.0.9. Matching helper versions are recommended; 0.1.9 clients can also join 0.1.4 servers when their resolved recipes match.

COOKING MATERIALS

On clients, the helper preserves a supported Standard shader on the copper material shared by the CookingAdditions grill and cooking-pot legs when returning to the menu. It prevents that material from being reassigned to another loaded shader solely because its name matches. Textures and other materials remain unchanged. The optional local setting is Visuals / Preserve cooking copper shader; restart after changing it.

AT THE TABLE / WHAT IT ADDS

Integration Added option Public default
CookingAdditions + Odin's Hares Grill Odin's raw hare into its existing cooked hare at the normal CookingAdditions griller, taking 25 seconds On
CookingAdditions + BoneAppetit Use Raw Pork for the existing undried boar preparation On
CookingAdditions + Odin's Hares Use Odin's raw hare for the existing undried hare preparation Off; opt in
CookingAdditions + RtDOcean Use cod, tuna or marlin meat for the existing undried fish preparation On
CookingAdditions + RtDOcean Use the other mod's tomato in ten selected meal recipes On

With the reviewed default recipes, salting takes one raw portion and five CookingAdditions salt, at the native Food Preparation Table. Put the resulting undried portion on the existing drying rack. Its 1800 world-second drying time remains unchanged. If the source recipe's supported quantities or station level are configured differently, the alternative copies those values. A disabled or structurally incompatible source recipe is skipped.

Hare curing produces CookingAdditions' existing salted hare, whose base stats in the reviewed version are 65 health / 23 stamina. It deliberately remains a separate opt-in because access to Odin's meadow hares can make this strong food available sooner.

The tomato alternatives cover CookingAdditions Fish Soup, Spicy Meat Supreme, Spicy Serpent Meat, Sweet N Spicy Fish and Tomato Soup; and RtDOcean Tomato Soup, Tomato Stew, Cod Sushi, Corn Soup and Pumpkin Soup. They preserve the target dish's other ingredients, output amount, station and station level. Seed and farming recipes are excluded. Different preparation tables remain distinct.

This version adds no items, nutrients, global food multipliers, skills, XP rewards, automatic feeding or background container scans. It does not add recipes for arbitrary meats, rice, shrimp, eggs or magical foods. It does not expand the large meat griller. Drying-rack support is described below.

LOAD THE RACK / BAG AND CHEST INGREDIENTS

With a reviewed pair of RunicCrafting 1.1.8 / RunicStorage 1.3.8 or RunicCrafting 1.1.11 / RunicStorage 1.3.12 enabled, interact normally with a CookingAdditions drying rack to pull one prepared undried portion from an equipped, closed AdventureBackpacks 2.1.13 / 2.2.1 bag or an eligible nearby chest. Carried ingredients and collecting finished food keep priority. The bag is optional; chest support works without it.

  • Uses the existing RunicCrafting range cap, access/ward checks and container limits; no separate larger range.
  • Requires room for the missing portion in ordinary inventory, then lets the rack's original loading action consume it.
  • Uses only the rack's actual accepted inputs. Raw pork, fish and hare still need their normal salt preparation first.
  • Makes no recurring or hover-time storage scans; lookup happens on explicit interaction.
  • Revalidates ownership and exact transfers. A transfer error attempts restoration and stops added rack pulls for that session. It does not retry automatically.

The optional weather correction lets the reviewed rack accept inputs during rain and snow. It leaves drying time and output unchanged. In the reviewed version, the restriction was in the input method rather than the drying timer.

[Drying rack]
Use nearby and backpack materials = true
Allow loading during rain and snow = true

These settings are controlled by the server. A missing/unsupported Runic dependency skips the storage bridge; recipe integrations and the reviewed weather correction remain independent. A failed original station request can leave a successfully pulled portion in ordinary inventory. The rack's existing multiplayer loading behavior is unchanged.

SAFE LEFTOVERS / RECYCLING

Alternative recipes can produce an identical item from different ingredients. Recycle N Reclaim does not retain which recipe was used, so returning recipe ingredients could produce the wrong refund.

With the reviewed Recycle N Reclaim 1.4.5, affected preparation portions and finished dishes are excluded from reclaim-tab and container refunds. Its inventory Delete action can still discard these foods, without returning materials, subject to its own settings and exclusions. Raw inputs, equipment recycling and other recipes are unaffected. Existing original-recipe stacks of the affected foods also receive this protection: the items do not record their recipe of origin.

If an unreviewed Recycle N Reclaim binary is installed or its adapter cannot initialize, alternative recipes are withheld. Hare grilling remains independent. Other recycling providers have not been reviewed; this is not a universal recycling compatibility guarantee.

READY THE KITCHEN / INSTALLATION

  1. Close the game and mod manager. Stop the server normally before installing there.
  2. Install the two framework dependencies. Keep both Conditional Config Sync DLLs from its official package.
  3. Copy plugins/CookingCompatibility into each installation's BepInEx/plugins directory. Keep one helper DLL per installation.
  4. Launch once to generate BepInEx/config/vercadi.CookingCompatibility.cfg. Set the desired modules on the server, then restart it and the clients.
  5. Join and check a small prepared portion on the drying rack before processing valuable stock. Matching helper versions are recommended. The 0.1.9 client retains protocol compatibility with 0.1.4 servers; resolved recipes must still match.

Server settings are synchronized. A second handshake compares the actual resolved recipes, material costs, station requirements and griller addition before this helper permits player spawning. The client waits up to 60 seconds for the connection and recipe acknowledgement while keeping the player spawn gate closed. A mismatch is reported in the logs and disconnects the client. Match the optional food mods, reviewed versions and native recipe settings, then restart. Sync installs neither missing mods nor their assets.

Different modpacks can use different supported subsets. Players joining the same server must resolve the same active integrations. A pack with only the framework dependencies loads without food additions.

Reviewed optional content: CookingAdditions 1.3.3, AWLGaming BoneAppetit 3.3.16, Odin's Hares 1.3.4, RtDOcean 2.2.49, Recycle N Reclaim 1.4.5. Optional storage adapters: RunicCrafting 1.1.8 with RunicStorage 1.3.8, or RunicCrafting 1.1.11 with RunicStorage 1.3.12, AdventureBackpacks 2.1.13 or 2.2.1. This release validates exact reviewed binaries. Updating a content mod can skip its integrations until reviewed; changing only one side can consequently prevent joining. It does not silently patch unknown private APIs.

FIELD NOTES / TROUBLESHOOTING AND REMOVAL

Startup logs list every recipe as active or skipped with its reason. Look for Resolved ... alternative recipes and, on a joining client, Cooking recipe handshake accepted by server. No recurring debug logging is enabled.

Changes in 0.1.2: projected bag contents now update the isolated BackpackComponent cache, and failed pulls restore the bag before its parent inventory. This prevents stale cached bag data from invalidating an otherwise correct transfer. Recipes and balance are unchanged.

The implementation uses existing item prefabs and changes no terrain, locations or world generation. A new world should not be necessary. To remove it, finish current station interactions, save and quit, then remove only this helper from all participants. Keep the original food mods installed so their saved items remain available.

Transfers stop if contents or ownership change unexpectedly. Recovery records preserve uncertain states for investigation; they are not imported automatically.
