DynamicReticle
Client-side contextual reticles for Valheim ranged weapons, with vanilla-inspired animations, ranged crosshair behavior, and configurable easing. Only shows the crosshair when you need it.Dynamic Reticle
A client-side Valheim aiming UI mod that expands the vanilla bow reticle language to other ranged and projectile weapons while keeping the HUD clean when you do not need it.
Features
- Normal crosshair appears for ranged/projectile weapons and when looking at interactable objects.
- Normal crosshair also appears for Hammer, Hoe, Cultivator, Pickaxes and the Snow Shovel.
- Normal crosshair appears whenever Valheim displays hover text/name for the aimed object.
- Uses a custom copy of Valheim's own bow-circle visual for consistent styling (it's a direct copy just to avoid bugs)
- Smooth configurable reticle easing.
- Crossbows shrink while reloading, stay tight while loaded, and disappear when fired.
- Spears get a smooth throw reticle timed to the projectile release.
- Projectile staves get contextual aiming reticles.
- Sustained rapid-fire staves stay at minimum size while firing and disappear when firing stops.
- Utility/summoning staves do not show a ranged reticle.
- The vanilla stealth/sneak HUD indicator is disabled, but can be re-enabled.
- Fully client-side.
Installation
Install with Gale/Hexium or another compatible mod manager.
For manual installation, place DynamicReticle.dll in:
BepInEx/plugins/
BepInEx for Valheim is required.
Configuration
A config file is generated after launching the game:
BepInEx/config/kajetan.valheim.dynamicreticle.cfg
Notable options include:
- normal crosshair fade timing
- reticle easing: Linear, SineInOut, or ExpoInOut (Linear is vanilla)
- vanilla bow scale range vs custom scale values
- per-weapon-category reticle toggles
- stealth indicator toggle
Compatibility
- Client-only.
- Built and tested against Valheim 1.0.12.
- Requires BepInEx 5.
- No server installation is required.
Notes
The mod uses Valheim's own interaction targeting and actual attack/reload events where available instead of custom aiming raycasts or something.
