Valheim GIF Posters

Place animated GIFs, static PNG/JPEG images, or looping videos on walls in Valheim using direct file URLs.

How to use

1. Select Media poster in the hammer's Furniture category and place it on a wall. It costs 2 wood.
2. Press E on the poster and paste a direct image or video URL, such as https://example.com/animation.gif, https://example.com/photo.jpg, or https://example.com/movie.mp4.
3. Wait for the file to load. Videos play automatically in a loop. Submit an empty URL to clear the poster and stop its sound.
4. Press Alt + E to set that poster's scale. Enter a value from 0.25 to 10, with up to two decimal places. Both 1.5 and 1,5 are accepted. 1 is the default size. The scale is saved per poster and shared with other players.
5. Press Shift + E to set that poster's volume from 0 to 100. 0 mutes it; 50 is the default. Volume is saved per poster and shared with other players. Sound fades with distance, up to 28 metres.

Use a URL that returns the file itself, not a preview page on a site such as Giphy, Tenor, YouTube, or an image host. GIFs are limited to 512 × 512 pixels; PNG and JPEG images are limited to 4096 × 4096 pixels. Image downloads are limited to 16 MiB. Videos support formats such as MP4, MOV, and WebM with compatible codecs; MKV is not supported. Videos are limited to 1920 × 1080 pixels horizontally or 1080 × 1920 vertically, with a 256 MiB download limit and up to 4 active videos per client.

Every player must be able to reach the URL. The Valheim server shares the URL, while each client downloads and plays the file independently.

Installation

Install with a Thunderstore compatible mod manager to get the declared dependencies automatically. The mod, BepInExPack Valheim, and Jötunn must be installed on the server and on every client. Restart the game and server after installing; this mod uses Jötunn's EveryoneMustHaveMod compatibility setting.

For manual installation, install BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn, then copy ValheimGifPosters.dll to BepInEx/plugins/ValheimGifPosters/ on the server and every client. For r2modman, use that path inside the active profile.

The configuration file is BepInEx/config/xaren.valheim.gifposters.cfg.
