ForgeControl

The forge asks before it upgrades. When you press Upgrade on an item, a window in Valheim's own style opens: pick how many levels to add, and at the Forge of Potential choose what a failed attempt does (break the item, or lose one level) or lower an item's level / break it on purpose.

(Versión en español más abajo.)

What it does

  • Choose how many levels. Press Upgrade on an item you own and a window opens with - / + / Max. Several levels are several attempts in a row, each one the game's own craft button, so the game consumes the materials, rolls and puts the new item back. The run stops at the quality you asked for, if the item breaks, if materials or idols run out, if you cancel with the game's cancel button, if you close the inventory, or after a maximum number of attempts. A summary shows at the top left.
  • Forge of Potential: what a failure does. Each idol has a 65% chance to raise the item one level. If it fails the game breaks the item and gives part of its materials back. Here you choose: Break the item (as in the vanilla game) or Lose one level (it goes down one quality and the run keeps trying until it reaches the quality you asked for or you run out of idols). A quality 1 item cannot go lower and stays at 1.
  • Forge of Potential: Upgrade at 100%. A button that makes every attempt succeed (the idol is still used up, 1 per level, and it never breaks). It takes the risk out of the forge, so you can switch it off with AllowGuaranteed = false. It is a local change, but other players on a shared server may not like it.
  • Forge of Potential: direct actions. Lose 1 level and Break the item (each uses 1 idol, like any attempt). The window tells you what breaking would return (the game's own formula).
  • Normal stations (forge, workbench...) ask for the levels too, up to the item's maximum quality, one upgrade at a time. Turn it off with AskAtRegularStations = false and only the Forge of Potential asks. Making new items is never touched.
  • Enter confirms and Esc (or Tab) cancels. The window is mouse-driven: with a controller it does not open and the game's own upgrade button is used.
  • Client-side. It only changes what your game does with your own inventory. The server and other players do not need it.

Configuration

BepInEx/config/com.despr0grammer.forgecontrol.cfg

Option Default What it does
Enabled true Master switch: off, the crafting window is the vanilla one
AskAtRegularStations true Also ask at normal stations, to add several levels at once
MaxLevels 10 Most levels offered at the Forge of Potential (1 to 50)
DefaultLevels 1 Levels the window starts on
MaxAttempts 30 Most attempts in one run at the Forge of Potential (1 to 200)
OnFailure Break Break or Downgrade (the window can change it each time)
AllowGuaranteed true Show the "Upgrade at 100%" button at the Forge of Potential
RememberChoices true The window stores your last choice in OnFailure and DefaultLevels
HudScale 1.0 Size of the window

Compatibility and known limitations

  • Made for Valheim 1.0.x with BepInEx 5. If an update changes the crafting window's internals the mod switches itself off and says why in BepInEx/LogOutput.log; the game's own upgrade button keeps working.
  • The window is mouse-driven (Enter and Esc/Tab for keyboard). With a controller it does not open: the game's own upgrade button is used.
  • With Lose one level a run can need many more attempts than levels (each failure takes one back), so each attempt uses an idol: keep an eye on MaxAttempts.
  • Mods that also replace the crafting window's craft button may not work together with this one.

  • Forge of Potential: qué hace un fallo.
  • Forge of Potential: Mejorar al 100 %.
  • Forge of Potential: acciones directas.
  • Intro confirma y Esc (o Tab) cancela.
