Progression help with Archer, Warrior, and Healer mercenaries, & optional LLM guidance.DynamicNPCs
Mod was created to help players who are struggling with progression. It currently includes three built-in mercenaries: Archer, Warrior, and Healer. Mercenaries are free to use, will follow the player (teleporting to them if they get stuck or move farther than 30m away), and are designed to stay close during exploration and combat.
Place a Mercenary Banner, claim it, and the company is yours. Their gear and food scale with your boss progression, they manage their own loadouts, and fallen mercs return to the banner after a short delay — with a spoken death announcement so a loss is never silent. Log out with them and they rejoin you at your side next login.
Any player can place their own Mercenary Banner and claim it; the banner and its mercenaries belong to the claiming player. One banner per player.
Optional LLM dialogue
Supply an OpenAI-compatible API (server-side key) and the company talks: natural-language questions and commands, in-character replies grounded in a live report of the world — nearby creatures with counts and compass directions, measured creek widths, and a map line of every significant body of water within 400 m. The server owns all state and authorization; clients never see the API key.
Find what you need
The guide menu (default G on a recruited merc) offers your tombstone, boss Vegvisirs and altars, your banner, and a find-nearby catalog: creatures (deer, boar, hare, wolf), plants and crops (berries, mushrooms, thistle, carrots, turnips, onions, barley, flax), pickaxe-gated ore, and places — sunken crypts, burial chambers, troll caves, frost caves, Fuling villages, and tar pits. During creature hunts only the archer takes the shot; the rest of the company holds back and points out the quarry.
Mercenaries may not work properly in the Ashlands yet.
