FlashLight
Craft a handheld flashlight with adjustable brightness, a wide spotlight, textured model, and multiplayer beam synchronization.FlashLight
Adds a craftable black-and-yellow handheld flashlight to Valheim, with adjustable brightness and a broad spotlight. Its textured model has a side handle, and the light begins at the lens. The model uses the character's existing hand animation. The inventory icon has a transparent background so the equipped-item highlight is visible around the flashlight.
Crafting
Craft FlashLight at a level 1 workbench using:
- 2 Bronze
- 1 Crystal
- 1 Surtling Core
Discover the ingredients to learn the recipe. Equip the item like the Dvergr lantern. It uses Valheim's native lantern equipment rules: it can move to the left hand when paired with a one-handed weapon. If a sword and shield are equipped, the flashlight replaces the shield and keeps the sword. Equipping a one-handed weapon while holding the flashlight and a shield also replaces the shield. A flashlight and shield still work together without a one-handed weapon. Two-handed equipment follows the game's normal lantern compatibility rules. Stand normally for a moment after equipping so the handle alignment can settle. There is no fuel consumption, durability drain, or melee attack.
Controls
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| R | Stow or draw equipped hand items, including the flashlight |
| L | Turn the light on or off |
| [ | Decrease brightness |
| ] | Increase brightness |
Brightness and on/off state are remembered across restarts. Key bindings can be changed in the BepInEx configuration. Stowing with R attaches the flashlight at the right hip and keeps it lit if the saved light toggle is on. Its model and beam point in the direction the character faces. Drawing restores in-hand view aiming. Stow/draw follows the game's binding (R by default). L and the brightness keys work while held in either hand or stowed at the hip. The beam switches off when dropped, fully unequipped, dead, or teleporting.
Settings
Configuration: BepInEx/config/local.valheim.magliteflashlight.cfg.
Use a compatible configuration editor or edit the file while Valheim is closed.
| Setting | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness | 2.5 | 0.25–8 |
| BrightnessStep | 0.25 | 0.05–2 |
| Range | 40 metres | 5–80 metres |
| BeamAngle | 55 degrees | 15–90 degrees |
| Shadows | Enabled | On/off |
| ModelScale | 1.65 (about 40 cm long) | 0.5–3 |
GripPosition and GripRotation allow further hand-placement adjustments. Restart after changing model size to refresh dropped-item collision. The handheld beam follows view aim; the stowed beam follows character facing. Disabling shadows can let light pass through walls. This light does not clear Mistlands mist.
Installation and multiplayer
Install with Gale, r2modman, or Thunderstore Mod Manager. BepInEx and Jotunn are required and are included as package dependencies.
Install on every player and the dedicated server. This adds a custom item; unmodded players and vanilla servers are not supported. Beam state, brightness, range, cone angle, and aim are synchronized to other modded players. Appearance and shadow settings are local preferences. Keep the same version across your group.
For manual installation, place the plugin folder in BepInEx/plugins.
If upgrading from a local test build, remove or disable duplicate copies of
MagliteFlashlight.dll before installing through your mod manager.
Compatibility and status
The original 1.0.6 build targeted Valheim 1.0.15 / Unity 6000.0.75, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, and Jotunn 2.30.0. Version 1.0.7 updates that compiled plugin while preserving its assets and item identity. Binary structure, helper compilation, and embedded assets have been checked. The new hand switching, stow placement, and multiplayer behavior have not yet been tested in-game.
