What this mod does
It replaces Link's shield in Majora's Mask (Zelda 64: Recompiled) with a brand-new 3D Hero's Shield, rebuilt from the official artwork, with real relief and metallic reflections. It also includes an HD Young Link and reflective metal swords and shields. You choose what to use in game.
The story behind the shield
At the start of Majora's Mask, Link leaves Hyrule on a secret and personal journey, in search of a beloved friend. Far from home, in the land of Termina, he no longer carries the Hylian Shield: his companion is the Hero's Shield, a symbol of that journey.
The Hylian Shield has already been beautifully remade in 3D by other mods, such as Skilar's Art Plus for Ship of Harkinian. The Hero's Shield never got that treatment. Now, for the first time, it has a full 3D model with real metal reflections: polished silver, a gold Triforce, blue and red enamel and, on the back, the Song of Time engraved in the metal.
Song of Time detail

The Song of Time is engraved in the shield's metal, so the hero never forgets the way back to the First Day.

What's included
In the original game, the Hero's Shield was just a flat texture on a low-poly board. Here it is rebuilt from scratch, and it comes with a matching Link and reflective metal gear:
| Piece | |
|---|---|
| 01 | 🛡️ Hero's Shield Artwork HD: the front has raised details based on the official artwork, reflective silver and gold, and blue and red enamel. The back has wood, riveted metal bands, the Song of Time engraved in the metal, a stitched leather strap and a grip that Link actually holds. |
| 02 | 🧝 HW Young Link HD: based on the HD Young Link from Hyrule Warriors, with improved textures, but reshaped to keep the original N64 proportions, including the classic N64 hand style. |
| 03 | ⚔️ Mirror-steel gear: the Kokiri Sword (also used for the Razor Sword), the Master Sword in place of the Gilded Sword, the Hylian Shield in place of the Hero's Shield, and the Crescent Moon Mirror Shield, all with realistic metal reflections. While defending, Link holds his sword so it doesn't clip through the shield. |
Choose what to use in the Player Model Manager menu (L + A): the shield alone, Link alone, or the entire set.
Install
- Install using a mod manager (r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager). It also installs Player Model Manager and its dependencies.
- In game, press L + A, then select Equipment → Hero's Shield → Hero's Shield Artwork HD and Human → HW Young Link HD.
Prefer a one-click installer for Windows, Linux, Steam Deck or macOS? Get it on GitHub.
For an even better look, use MM-Reloaded for HD textures throughout the game. The back of the shield uses the game's own textures, so it gets the HD upgrade too.
