Up to four AI co-op partners for Risk of Rain 2. Playing alone? Bring friends who never go AFK.
FakeFriend adds bots that play survivors next to you: they follow you around the stage, fight what you fight, level up with your team, and come back next stage if they die, just like real co-op players.
Features
- Up to 4 FakeFriends. Add bots one by one and pick for each of them its own survivor, skin, skills and item mode. Every survivor, skin and skill variant is available, including ones from other mods.
- A menu of its own. Click the FakeFriend button in the top-right corner of the character select screen (or the pause menu during a run), or press F6 in a run. Each bot has a tab with its portrait and, during a run, its health.
- Doesn't take player slots. The bots are AI characters, not players. A full lobby of 4 players can still bring 4 FakeFriends.
- Only the host needs the mod. Bots are spawned by the host and synced by the game itself, so friends can join without installing anything, and the mod never ends up in the lobby's required mod list.
- Can be switched off. The ON/OFF switch in the menu turns all bots off at once (they keep their setup), or remove single bots with Remove. Works mid-run too.
- Behaves like a teammate.
- Every vanilla survivor has hand-tuned AI (ported from PlayerBots by Melledy): it knows when to use each skill, aims instantly and reacts every tick. Seeker meditates and Railgunner hits the reload boost on its own.
- Modded survivors use the AI their mod ships, or a generic one when there is none. The menu shows which one with a TUNED / MOD / GENERIC AI tag.
- Attacks whatever you attack, stays close, runs back when it gets too far, and teleports to you if it gets lost.
- Shares your team's level and shows up in your ally list on the HUD.
- If you die in multiplayer, it follows the closest living player.
- Three item modes, per bot:
- Random, same rarity (default): whenever you get an item, the bot gets a random one of the same rarity. Feels like a partner with their own luck.
- Copy mine: the bot always has the same items as you.
- None: no items.
- Death and respawn: like a real co-op player, a dead bot comes back at the next stage. You can set a respawn timer instead in the config.
How to use
- Install with a mod manager (or drop
FakeFriend.dllintoBepInEx/plugins). - Start a single-player run or host a lobby, and click FakeFriend in the top-right corner of the character select screen.
- Pick a survivor, skin and skills for FakeFriend 1. Press + Add FakeFriend for more (up to 4), then start the run. The bots join next to you once you leave the drop pod.
- During the run, press F6 (or open the pause menu and click FakeFriend): add or remove bots, switch them all off, change their items, or pick a different survivor and press Apply changes.
Config
BepInEx/config/FakeFriend.cfg. Everything except the last four settings can be changed from the menu.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| General / Enabled | true | Main switch for all bots |
| Bot 1–4 / Active | Bot 1 only | Which bots are in your team |
| Bot 1–4 / Survivor, Skin, Skills | Commando, 0, defaults | Each bot's character and loadout |
| Bot 1–4 / Items | RandomSameTier | CopyHost, RandomSameTier or None |
| General / Respawn delay | 0 | Seconds until a dead bot returns. 0 = next stage |
| Behaviour / Leash distance | 60 | Meters before a bot runs back to you when it has nothing to shoot (twice this: even mid-fight) |
| Behaviour / Teleport distance | 120 | Meters before a bot teleports to you |
| General / Panel key | F6 | Opens the menu during a run |
| General / UI scale | 1 | Menu size |
Settings from 1.1.x (one bot) are moved to Bot 1 automatically.
Good to know
- Bots do not open chests, use shrines, activate the teleporter or use equipment. You are still the one playing the objective.
- Like real players, the run ends when every human player is dead, even if bots are still alive.
- Bots do not count as players for difficulty scaling.
- Clients who have the mod can open the menu with F6, but only the host's settings are used.
