README

RiskySotS

A full overhaul to the Seekers of the Storm progression path.

Most of the dependencies can be disabled if desired, they're just there since I see them as basic things that are needed for SotS to be playable.

The main pain burning pain points I wanted to address are the following:

  • Stage 1 pacing has broken down due to the guaranteed free Halcyon Shrine, which is too strong to skip.
  • SotS stages don't fit into normal runs properly. You see them if you want to metagame with the Halcyon Shrine, and are completely locked out if you don't do the Halcyon Shrine.
  • SotS earlygame stages give way too many items, and I notably finding myself having way more items compared to without the DLC.
  • Halcyon Shrine enemy scaling is insane.

Pain point I have that won't be addressed with this mod are:

  • Survivor Gripes

    • Seeker: DebloatedSeeker pretty much does what I want to do and I am satisfied.
    • Chef: He's jank, but RiskyTweaks changes are enough to make him feel fine for me.
    • False Son: I don't really have strong opinions on him.

    Survivor preferences vary greatly, so I don't want to tie major survivor changes into this and would rather leave those for separate mods.

  • Too much Item Economy powercreep: Blacklist the problem items with an item blacklist mod.

Progression

  • No longer tied to SotS stages.

  • New Path:

    1. Shrine of the Colossus spawns on Stage 1. (Shrine of Shaping is now used for Colossus Access as Providence intended)
    2. If hit on Stage 1, another Shrine of the Colossus will spawn on Stage 2.
    3. Hitting the Shrine of the Colossus on Stages 1 + 2 will spawn a Halcyon Shrine on Stage 3. This consumes director credits.
    4. Completing the Halcyon Shrine on Stage 3 will open a Meridian Portal.
  • Shrine of the Colossus will give a high chance for an Altar of Gold to spawn on the next stage.

    • Completing Gilded Coast does the following:
      • Stage 1: A Shrine of the Colossus will spawn on Stage 2.
      • Stage 2: Will spawn a Halcyon Shrine on Stage 3. This consumes director credits.
      • Stage 3: A Meridian Portal will be available inside of Gilded Coast upon completion.
      • Stages 4-5: Return to the normal loop.

Interactables

  • Removed Shrine of Shaping. It is now Shrine of the Colossus, used for path access.
  • Halcyon Shrine
    • Charge rate doubled.
    • No longer randomly spawns on stages.
    • Scaling is now consistent
      • In Vanilla, it scales purely off of gold given, leading to insanely tanky/powerful Halcyonites that 1shot you lategame.
      • New scaling remains roughly consistent throughout the game, and a max power Halcyonite is just a tad stronger than a naturally-spawned Gilded Halcyonite.

Stages

  • Stages are now mixed into the normal loop.

  • Loop variants now show up pre-loop. (Disabled for Stage 1s if LoopVariantConfig is installed, for compatibility purposes.)

  • Nerfed director credits across the board to combat director credit powercreep.

    • Stage 1 Benchmark: 220

      • Viscous Falls/Verdant Falls: 280 -> 240
        • These are more complex and covered compared to Titanic Plains and Distant Roost, but only by a small amount.
      • Shattered Abodes: 280 -> 240
        • It's bigger than Titanic Plains, but you can still see the whole map very easily, even compared to Siphoned Forest.
      • Disturbed Impact: 280 -> 210 (+30 from guaranteed Large Chest)
    • Stage 2 Benchmark: 220/280

      • Reformed Altar: 300 -> 220
        • This is a small map, so this matches Abandoned Aqueduct's credit count.
  • Adjusted Spawnpools

    • Viscous Falls
      • Dangerous enemies (Gups, Parents, Elder Lemurians, Imp Overlords, Granadparents) are locked to postloop.
    • Disturbed Impact
      • Dangerous enemies (Parents, Elder Lemurians, Grandparents) are locked to postloop.
    • Reformed Altar
      • Elder Lemurians are locked to postloop.

        Honestly Stage 2 Elders weren't really that bad, but this is now being treated as a normal stage instead of being an alternate challenge stage with more loot.

Enemies

  • Halcyonite

    • Adjusted hitbox sizes. (Disabled if Halcyon Knight is installed)

    I have no idea how to fix this thing, nor do I want to invest much time in figuring out how to.

  • Children

    • Removed I-frames. (Disabled if RiskyTweaks is installed)
    • Reduced damage from 80/20 -> 56-28 (Disabled if RiskyMod is installed)
  • Scorch Worms

    • Removed I-frames. (Disabled if RiskyTweaks is installed)
    • Reduced attack damage by 20% (Disabled if RiskyMod is installed)

    Honestly just use RemoveScorchWurm, there's no fixing this enemy.
