EchoLocation MM
Explore BONELAB through sound. Reveal the dark with fading dots, scan ahead with LiDAR or around you with Sonar. Includes player silhouettes, footprints and bullet trails.EchoLocation-MM
Explore BONELAB through sound. Your view becomes black, and footsteps, microphone input, nearby sounds and Fusion voices reveal walls, floors and objects as fading dots. Switch to LiDAR to scan ahead, or Sonar to scan around you.
Features
- EchoLocation: dots fade, and walking, talking or nearby sounds reveal your surroundings again. Turn on Continuous Surroundings for automatic scans while silent; it starts off by default.
- LiDAR: squeeze the right controller grip twice, releasing between squeezes, to scan the area in front of you.
- Sonar: a continuous scan rotates around your body, with an optional green-scenery/red-objects color scheme.
- Distance colors: circular dots blend from white to blue, green, yellow and red as surfaces get farther away.
- Player silhouettes: actual supported avatar models, including custom avatars. Whispers stay below detection; casual speech reveals players near the dots, and louder speech makes them brighter; running-based reveal is a separate option that starts off. LiDAR and Sonar reveal players when a scan hits them, then the silhouette fades.
- Nearby voices: Fusion voices and EchoLocation player highlights stay within the live dots plus a small margin. The defaults are 3 m beyond dots and a 30 m maximum. Immediate nearby speech can still be heard in darkness.
- Voice meters: a segmented green/amber/pink bar with speech thresholds and a peak indicator. Separate headset and spectator options both start off. They do not change sensitivity, voice-chat settings or controller input.
- Footprints and bullets: fading shoe prints from fast movement, tapered bullet trails and brief impact flashes.
- Colored BoneMenu: quick mode and blackout switches, separate scanner settings, and Low, Medium or High performance presets.
Installation
Requires Windows PC BONELAB, MelonLoader 0.7.3 and BoneLib 3.2.2. Standalone Quest/LemonLoader is not supported.
Install with a BONELAB-compatible mod manager, or close the game and copy Mods/EchoLocation.dll into the game's MelonLoader Mods folder. Replace your older DLL and keep only one copy installed.
Getting started
Open BoneMenu > EchoLocation-MM, turn On/Off on and choose a mode. Close the menu to see the effects. The title changes with the mode and turns green while enabled.
- Blackout View: switch between a black background and normal gameplay behind the dots. Menus temporarily restore normal vision.
- Send Pulse / Scan: trigger a scan from the first page.
- Settings > Performance: adjust quality, Continuous Surroundings and its refresh interval.
- Settings > Visuals > Player Highlights: adjust the shared player/voice range. Under Detection, toggle running reveal and adjust Casual and Loud voice thresholds or the extra distance beyond dots.
- Settings > General > VR Voice Meter / Spectator Voice Meter: enable either bar or both. Green is below detection, amber is normal speech, and pink is loud. Tune the Casual threshold if whispers reveal you or normal speech is missed; microphones and chat volume vary.
- Settings > LiDAR / Sonar: adjust range, scan speed, fade times and dot color. Choose the original Distance gradient or White, Cyan, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink or Purple. Each mode saves its own color. Selecting a Sonar color switches off green-scenery/red-objects; turn that option back on to override it.
- Settings > General > Pulse Shortcut: choose your EchoLocation shortcut. LiDAR always uses double right grip; Sonar runs automatically.
Multiplayer
Fusion is optional. Effects are client-side, so other players do not need this mod. Voices fade at the edge of the detected area; disabling the mod restores their normal playback volume. This does not change other players' microphones or chat settings. Voice detection respects Fusion mute/deafen and voice-input availability. Without an active Fusion session, the mod can use an available standalone microphone. Samples are processed in memory, not saved.
The spectator bar hides if the XR device mirror is disabled. The VR bar sits below the center of your view; a headset mirror can also show it. The local reading is a reference, since received chat volume can differ. Live headset appearance and frame times still need in-game testing.
Scan detail and performance depend on your map, hardware and avatar complexity. Use Low or a slower refresh if needed. The cover is illustrative artwork, not a gameplay screenshot.
