Dynamic Walking
Physical walk-in-place locomotion for BONELAB.
Instead of gliding wherever you push the stick, Dynamic Walking splits moving into two natural intentions:
- The thumbstick only aims. Push it the way you want to go — forward, strafe, backward — but on its own it no longer moves you.
- Stepping moves you. March in place and the gentle up-and-down bob of your head becomes your walking speed. Step faster and (with running on) you break into a run.
Both are required: stick centered, you stay put no matter how you bob; stand still with the stick pushed, you stay put until you start stepping. It works with everything the normal walk does — climbing ledges, sprinting, and full Fusion multiplayer (other players just see you walking).
Why it feels accurate
- Slopes, elevators, teleports and crouches don't shove you. Only the quick bob of real stepping counts — steady vertical motion is filtered out.
- Genuine step detection. It watches for the real up/down rhythm of marching, so looking around or one-off movement won't make you drift.
- Smooth and responsive. You start moving the instant you step and glide at one steady speed between strides, then settle quickly when you stop.
- Speed follows your pace. March quickly to move faster, up to a run.
Settings (BoneMenu → Dynamic Walking)
- Dynamic Walking — master on/off (off = normal stick movement).
- Activate Running — let fast stepping break into a run (off caps you at a walk).
- Step Sensitivity — how easily a head bob becomes movement.
- Min Step Strength — ignore head motion gentler than this.
- Reset Defaults — restore the tuning.
Installation
Install with the Thunderstore Mod Manager / r2modman, or manually drop DynamicWalking.dll into your BONELAB/Mods folder. Requires MelonLoader and BoneLib (installed automatically by the mod manager).
