MSC S.K.A.T.E.

Play multiplayer S.K.A.T.E. in ReSkate with expanded trick matching, custom host rules and Throwdowns integration. Set a trick, match your opponents and avoid collecting all five letters. The last skater standing wins.

Features

  • Match supported flips, spins, grinds, grabs and trick combinations.
  • Choose scored trick categories, detector thresholds and additional rules.
  • Optional dark catches and dark flips, controlled by the host.
  • Optional stock physics enforcement for participants, with normal tuning restored when they leave or are eliminated.
  • A turn countdown, return to the starting flag enabled by default, player letters and trick feedback.
  • MSC-hosted setup/lobby, a dedicated flag-logo.png world marker, walk-up join for guests and walk-up Start for the host.
  • Shows a native-inspired MSC gameplay HUD with player letters, tricks done and turn prompts; the custom MSC Quit menu remains available during play.

MSC S.K.A.T.E. is a Luau plugin and leaves ReSkate's original S.K.A.T.E. mode available separately.

Installation

ReSkate with Luau plugin support is required. Install MSC S.K.A.T.E. 0.3.32 on every player's client and on the host/server. Replace the previous version rather than keeping duplicate copies.

Players: Import MSC_Skate-0.3.32-candidate.zip through ReSkate's mod manager, or extract it into Mods/MSC_Skate/. The manifest files and plugin/ folder belong directly inside that directory.

How to play

  1. Open Insert > Plugins > MSC S.K.A.T.E. and choose your hosting preferences under Scored Tricks, Detector and Additional Rules.
  2. Open Throwdowns > MSC S.K.A.T.E. to open the custom MSC lobby. Use Up/Down or the D-pad to select a row, Left/Right to change it, and Enter / controller A to confirm. Mouse selection and clicking are supported. Choose the player count, turn timer and host rules in the Setup and Rules pages. Backspace / controller B closes the lobby screen.
  3. Select Place MSC S.K.A.T.E. flag. If the native Throwdowns screen with the three game modes is still visible, close it using the game's Back control. The MSC placement preview appears only after that native screen closes and gameplay resumes. Skate to the starting point, then press E (keyboard) or X (controller) to place the floating MSC logo. Backspace / B cancels placement and returns to setup.
  4. After placement, you stay in gameplay. Other players approach the floating flag and press E / X to join. With at least two skaters enrolled, the host can approach the same flag and press E / X to Start MSC S.K.A.T.E., or Start from the MSC waiting lobby as before.
  5. When Start is confirmed, all enrolled skaters teleport to the saved flag position and facing, including when the host has disabled return-to-flag-on-turn. The active setter then lands a trick. Each defender attempts to match it before their timer expires. Failed defences earn letters. A failed set passes the turn; after the defence circuit, the first successful defender becomes the setter, or the original setter continues if nobody matched.

All participants use the host's match rules. Changing your hosting preferences during a match affects your next game. Active rules are visible in the plugin menu.

Use Leave lobby while waiting, or controller Start / Options during play for the MSC Match Menu: Resume, Quit Throwdown (leave) and host-only End for Everyone. Each quit action requires confirmation. The Insert plugin menu also provides confirmed Leave and host End actions. Reopen the lobby using Insert > Plugins > MSC S.K.A.T.E. > Open MSC lobby / setup.

The flag artwork uses package-root flag-logo.png, currently a temporary copy of the MSC icon until the dedicated artwork is provided. It is a camera-facing image anchored at a world position (not a depth-occluded 3D prop), so it may be visible through surrounding scenery. Native/vanilla throwdown controls and matchmaking are not modified.

Your stance

When you first open MSC match setup or try to join a flag, choose your natural Regular (left foot forward) or Goofy (right foot forward) stance. MSC saves this once per player and will not ask again. You can change it in Insert > Plugins > MSC S.K.A.T.E. > Detector > Your Base Stance. MSC does not rely on ReSkate's reported default stance; Switch, Fakie and Nollie still come from the trick feed.

Physics and MSC rewards

Enforce stock physics during game defaults on. It applies to active participants and releases their tuning when they leave or are eliminated. The preparation countdown temporarily holds the active player before their attempt.

Eligible winners receive 100 MSC per opponent in the roster at Start: 100 MSC for a two-player game, up to 900 MSC for ten players. A match must include a successful set and a resolved defence; cancelled games and immediate join/leave games do not pay.

Current limitations

  • Underflips are not supported at the moment due to ReSkate API limitations. Do not rely on underflip modifiers being recognised or compared correctly.
  • Some body-flip modifiers, including exact tumble direction and rotation counts, lack the evidence needed for reliable matching through the plugin API.
  • Trick recognition depends on the observations ReSkate exposes. Missing or ambiguous observations can prevent a trick or combination from being accepted.
  • Stalls, slams and Cannonball are excluded. Area checks are not supported.
  • Stock physics enforcement relies on participating clients and can conflict with another plugin requesting control of competition physics.

Match menu: During an MSC match, press controller Start/Options to open the MSC full-screen match menu. Choose Resume skating, Quit Throwdown (leave match), or (host only) End throwdown for everyone. Leave/End require confirmation and use the same authority actions as Insert. Gamepad Start is reserved only while an MSC match is playing, and restored afterward. Escape cannot be suppressed via the documented ReSkate Luau API; use Start/Options or the Insert page if Escape opens the native pause menu. Normal S.K.A.T.E. is unaffected.
