Realistic Progression - Alpha

Learn tricks through practice, build consistency, and grow your skating career with a HUD styled using Skate's own game assets.

Intended for offline play. Learning and progression pause in multiplayer sessions.

This is an alpha testing release. Bugs and incomplete trick recognition are still possible, and more will be added over time.

Getting started

Requires ReSkate 2.1.3 with scripting support (the version used for testing). Later runtime versions may change compatibility.

  1. Open ReSkate Launcher > MODS and find Realistic Progression in its Thunderstore browser.
  2. Click Install. The launcher's mod manager installs the package automatically.
  3. Launch the game and enable the progression plugin if prompted.
  4. Press Insert > Realistic Progression and begin Basics.
  5. After Basics, choose Flip Tricks, Dark Tricks, Grinds, Grabs or Plants.

To test the ZIP before its listing is published, import it through ReSkate Launcher's mod manager.

The welcome card appears once gameplay is ready, followed by a What's New card with recent changes. Each card can be dismissed with Enter or controller B, or closes after 30 seconds. They do not pause gameplay. A fresh button press is required for each card.

Lessons and consistency

Basics covers ollie, nollie, body spins, 50-50, manual and nose manual. Complete each lesson to unlock the next lesson in its category. Selecting a category queues its lessons in order.

Lessons progress through their existing practice requirements. Character levels, XP and challenges do not lock lessons.

The current consistency percentage represents earned learning progress; it is not a measured landing probability. A future calculation rework is being considered and is not included in this release.

Practice improves trick consistency. The initial input-control requirement is 90%, easing as consistency improves. At 100% consistency, the trick uses native handling without added execution failures. Native game falls remain possible at any consistency.

Switch and fakie share regular base-trick unlocks and consistency. Nollie and relevant FS/BS directions remain distinct. Natural movement, body spins, reverts, trickless airs, boned ollies, on-foot actions and slappy entry do not require separate learning. Learned grinds use native stability rather than a steering-based balance penalty.

Native lesson guides

The current lesson includes Skatepedia instructions and native stick graphics inside its HUD panel. The guide follows lesson changes automatically. In Insert > Realistic Progression, you can hide the guide or choose the native input option matching your stance and control settings. These options change the guide only; the mod does not automatically read the game's selected Skatepedia input variant. Controller button labels use Xbox notation.

Character levels

Career XP is separate from lesson progress:

Activity Career XP
Active riding 1 XP per 5 seconds
Allowed learned-trick landing 5 XP
Lesson completion 20 XP

Level 1 requires 100 XP to advance. Level 2 requires 500, level 3 requires 750, and each later requirement increases by 250 XP.

The career card appears at startup and on career level-up, holds for two seconds, then fades over half a second. Ranks reflect career level. Challenges are not available yet; their placeholder tracking and rewards are paused.

Offline enforcement

Progression requires active learning enforcement. Joining any multiplayer session (including an empty lobby), switching Learning off, or losing supported enforcement pauses lesson credit, consistency and XP. Returning offline does not redeem an attempt interrupted by multiplayer.

To progress, play offline with the mod enabled and Learning execution and landing failures enabled in its menu. Added bail requests use safety checks. Ordinary air/grind attempts require a detected nearby surface; confirmed held handplants use their native contact state to support ramp lips. Other mods that silently suppress an accepted native bail cannot be reliably detected; avoid combining those with progression testing.

Underflips and known limitations

  • All underflip lessons are deferred, including hospital flips, flower flips and nollie variants. Recognized underflip-category tricks are free from progression penalties and award no lesson credit. These lessons will be added at a later time.
  • The scripting feed sometimes reports only a base trick instead of its underflip distinction. The mod cannot reliably separate those cases yet.
  • Dark catches can generate an additional generic darkflip entry on release. The mod retains the confirmed catch for credit. Dark-grind behavior still needs further live confirmation.
  • Stick control is the mod's measured input-quality score, not the game's own accuracy meter.
  • Local play and regression simulations have been tested, but every catalogue variant and mod combination has not been verified live.

Saves and resets

Progress saves through ReSkate. Keep only one installed copy. If you used a private test build, back up its plugin storage before replacing it; different plugin folder/team names can use a different save location. This public package does not automatically migrate private-build saves.

To restart, open Insert > Realistic Progression > RESET PROGRESSION > CONFIRM RESET. This clears lesson and career progress; the mod stores a backup of the previous career first.
