NewtsKitchen
Adds a premium cooking goober to the Bazaar Between Time, letting players use Alloyed Collective cooking for Lunar Coins without replacing Computational Exchange.Newt's Kitchen
featuring the Cooking Goober
Cooking in Alloyed Collective is a neat mechanic, but in practice many runs barely touch it because Computational Exchange is such a commitment. You have to deliberately route there, stay there, and interrupt the flow of the run just to turn a few items into food.
Newt's Kitchen exists to make cooking more practical without making Computational Exchange pointless. It adds a Cooking Goober to the Bazaar Between Time so players can access cooking from the Bazaar itself — but only by paying escalating Lunar Coin fees for the convenience.
This keeps the original mechanic relevant while giving Bazaar visits a new use and making cooked items, including humble ingredients like Bison Steak, far more likely to see real play.
What the mod does
The mod places a themed stone Cooking Goober in the Bazaar alcove near Newt / the dream area and the green exchange side. Interacting with it opens the normal cooking interface and lets you craft vanilla cooked results from valid recipes.
Key behavior:
- Cooking costs Lunar Coins instead of being free convenience.
- Default price starts at 5 Lunar Coins.
- The price increases by a default 2.5× multiplier after every successful cook.
- The price and use count are shared for the current Bazaar visit.
- By default, the kitchen has a shared cook limit of 3 per player in the lobby for each Bazaar visit.
- Solo: 3 total cooks
- 2 players: 6 total cooks
- 3 players: 9 total cooks
- The limit and price both reset on the next Bazaar visit.
- The interaction will not open if you do not have enough Lunar Coins for the current price.
- On confirmation, the mod deducts both the ingredients and the Lunar Coin cost together.
- After a short delay, the result pops out as a regular cooked item pickup.
- The output is the real cooked item, not a Command / Indecision style replacement.
- Random flavor text from the Cooking Goober can appear in chat.
Why this mod exists
The goal is convenience with a cost, not a free bypass.
Computational Exchange still has a reason to exist because it remains the direct, intended route for cooking. Newt's Kitchen is the premium shortcut: quick, useful, lore-friendly, and expensive enough that you still have to think about whether the conversion is worth it.
That is also why the defaults are intentionally tuned to be a bit harsh. If the kitchen were too cheap or too spammable, it would stop being a convenience service and start replacing the original mechanic outright.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer tested: the mod was tested in multiplayer and the important parts were confirmed working.
That includes:
- correct ingredient consumption
- correct Lunar Coin deduction
- escalating price progression
- synchronized shared cook limit
- proper cooked-item output
- no Command / Indecision replacement behavior
The host / server is authoritative. In practice that means:
- the host determines the real price
- the host validates whether a player can cook
- the host validates the remaining shared cook allowance
- the host performs the actual transaction and result handling
- clients receive synchronized kitchen state updates
If a client enters the Bazaar before it has received the current kitchen state, the interaction can briefly show a syncing state before the real price is available. Once synchronized, players should see the proper current price rather than a misleading base value.
For best results in multiplayer, all players should use the same mod version.
Relationship to Beggar & Bouncer
If you use Beggar & Bouncer, this mod pairs nicely with it. Both mods give overlooked Bazaar props a real gameplay purpose and fit the same general theme of making the Bazaar feel more inhabited and mechanically interesting.
They are separate mods, but they were designed with a similar spirit and should make good companions in the same loadout.
Configuration
After first launch, edit:
BepInEx/config/com.deltalines.newtskitchen.cfg
The mod is intentionally configurable, but the defaults were tuned through repeated in-game testing. Most people probably should not change the placement, scaling, collider, throw, or aura settings unless they are actively troubleshooting or making personal visual tweaks.
Likewise, you can change pricing and limits, but doing so too aggressively can very easily push the mod into either "pointless" or "too strong" territory.
Recommended settings to leave alone
These are the values most people should treat as the intended experience:
- statue placement / rotation / scale
- grounding / embed depth
- interaction range tuning
- pickup spawn offsets and clearance values
- aura offsets and scale
- starting price and cost multiplier
- shared cook limit per player
They all work together. Changing one often means the others no longer feel right.
Important configurable categories
Depending on your generated config, the exact key names may vary slightly, but the important settings are grouped roughly like this:
| Category | Purpose | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Starting Lunar Coin cost and multiplier | Leave at defaults unless you intentionally want a harsher or softer economy |
| Cooking | Shared cook limit, output delay, pickup behavior | Safe to tweak carefully |
| Dialogue | Enable / disable flavor text | Safe to change |
| Appearance | Statue position, rotation, scale, aura, light | Best left alone unless visual correction is needed |
| Interaction / Collision | Prompt range, collider behavior, clearance | Best left alone |
| Debug | Verbose logging | Only enable for troubleshooting |
Compatibility notes
- Designed for runs where the Alloyed Collective cooking system is available.
- Intended to behave correctly with Artifact of Command and Artifact of Indecision by producing the real cooked item directly.
- Should pair well with Beggar & Bouncer.
- As with any scene-editing mod, compatibility is not guaranteed with other mods that heavily alter the Bazaar Between Time, replace the cooking system, or rewrite the related interactables.
Installation
Mod manager
Use r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager and install the package normally.
Manual install
Install the dependencies listed in the Thunderstore manifest, then place:
NewtsKitchen.dll
into your BepInEx/plugins folder.
Final note
This mod was made to give cooking a place in ordinary runs instead of leaving it as a mechanic many players barely ever bother with. If you want Bazaar utility that feels like it belongs there, Newt's Kitchen is meant to be exactly that.
This is an unofficial community mod for Risk of Rain 2.
