Government Database Rework

This mod turns the government, employee and resident databases into something you can read through instead of search. Everyone listed alphabetically, filtering as you type, and a live profile beside the list before you print it.

Overview

The Government Database is a search box. Nothing exists on it until you have typed two letters of a name you already know — which is a strange way to run a national register, and the Employee and Resident databases work the same way.

The thing is, you don't always know the name yet. Half the time you're standing at a terminal with a first initial and a job title, and the one system in the city that has every citizen in it refuses to show you a single one of them.

So now it's a directory. You open it and the whole register is already there, in order, and you page through it like a real detective would.

The Whole Register, In Order

Open the app and every citizen in the pool is listed, sorted Surname, Firstname, a page at a time. Page navigation sits along the bottom of the list with a counter telling you where you are, and it wraps around at both ends so you're never stuck at the bottom of an 800-name city.

Typing narrows the list instead of unlocking it. One character is enough, and clearing it brings the whole register back.

A Profile Before You Print It

Select a name and the record opens beside the list — photo, fingerprint card, and every detail the printed record carries. Read it on screen, decide whether you want it, and print from the same panel.

The information is not made up by this mod. It's rendered by the game's own evidence system, from the same data the paper would carry, so what you read on the screen is what you'd read in your hand. The rows the record has no answer for are left out rather than filling the panel with question marks.

The Employee And Resident Databases Too

All three run on the same screen, each limited to its own pool — the company's staff, or the building's residents.

Fingerprints follow the record. The government register holds them, and so does an employer, because you get printed when you hire on. A residence doesn't, so those records don't show them — same as what comes off the printer.

Looking a record up puts that citizen's prints on file, exactly the way meeting their print out in the world would: the system hands them the next identifier in its sequence and the record keeps it. Run someone through the database and you'll have their prints for the rest of the case.

Configuration

BepInEx\config\CalebScott.GovernmentDatabaseRework.cfg, created on first launch. Most values are read live, so changing one takes effect the next time you open the app.

If browsing the register and filing everyone's prints as you go feels too easy, set RevealFingerprintOnPreview = false and the card only shows prints you already had.

Compatibility

Needs BepInEx IL2CPP (the Thunderstore BepInExPack_IL2CPP). No other dependencies.
Built and tested against Shadows of Doubt Steam build 22889384.
Safe to add to an existing save. Prints filed through the database stay filed if you remove it — they're written the same way the game writes its own.
Expect conflicts with other mods that rearrange the same cruncher app.
If the app isn't the shape this mod expects — a different game version, or another mod got there first — it says so in the BepInEx log and leaves the screen alone, with the browsable list still working.
