PoisonGuns

Tired of the snake weapons? PoisonGuns swaps every snake for poison. Each poison weapon keeps the feel of the snake weapon it replaces: same fire rate, same spread, same throw. But instead of a snake you get a slow, glowing green projectile that damages over time.

Snakes that maps spawn on their own are left alone. Only the weapons change.

The weapons

Weapon What it does now
Poison Gun Fires a slow green poison bullet. Small hit, then damage over time.
Poison Minigun The same bullet at minigun speed, with a bit more recoil than before.
Poison Shotgun Three poison pellets at the original angles, plus a little random spread like the other shotguns.
Poison Launcher A very slow, spinning copy of the RPG rocket with a green exhaust flame. It bursts into a poison blast on impact, and it spawns as rarely as the RPG.
Flying Poison A slow poison seeker with a green comet tail that gently curves toward the nearest opponent and bursts into a smaller blast. It also spawns as rarely as the RPG.
Poison Grenade Same throw, bounce and fuse as before, but explodes into a cloud of poison.
  • Poison stacks. Each hit adds more poison and restarts the timer, up to a cap.
  • Kill credit goes to the shooter.
  • Poison clears every round.
  • Blasts hit you too. Like normal explosions, your own poison blasts poison you if you're in range. You can turn this off in the config.
  • "Snake" reads "Poison" in the menus. This covers the weapon menu and the level editor.

Install

The easiest way is r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager: click Install and it pulls in BepInEx for you.

To install by hand:

  1. Install BepInExPack SFTG.
  2. Drop PoisonGuns.dll into BepInEx/plugins.

The snake weapons are still controlled by the game's weapon menu, so make sure they're turned on.

Config

After the first launch, settings are in BepInEx/config/stickfight.poisonguns.cfg, or in your mod manager's config editor. Everything is tweakable:

  • Projectiles: speed and size of each one.
  • Damage: instant damage and poison damage, as multiples of a normal pistol bullet.
  • Blasts: blast radius, and whether your own blasts hit you.
  • Poison: duration, tick rate and stacking cap.
  • Seeker: homing strength and range.
  • Weapon tweaks: minigun recoil, shotgun spread, and whether the launcher and seeker use RPG rarity.
  • Looks: the poison colour.
  • Switches: separate on/off toggles for the weapon swap and the menu rename.

Compatibility

Local play only. Fully playable with controllers and needs no mouse. In online matches the mod switches itself off and snake weapons behave like normal, so you can still join any lobby with it installed. (The "Poison" names in the weapon menu stay, since they're only visual.)

Weapon Framework: works with it. Its weapons screen shows the Poison names (the Snake category becomes POISON), and the Poison Launcher and Flying Poison start from the RPG's odds there.

Credits

This mod was made with Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant. Claude wrote the code, worked out how the snake weapons are built by reading the game's files, and packaged it for Thunderstore. The idea, the design calls and all the playtesting came from a human who just wanted the snakes gone.
