WaveDefense
WORK IN PROGRESS. A third game mode beside Campaign and Roguelike: endless, ever-harder waves of enemies on one big arena, for max-level campaign heroes, solo or co-op. Numbers and features still change often.Wave Defense (work in progress)
Work in progress. Playable, but unfinished: waves, scaling and rewards still change from version to version, co-op has had little testing, and things will break. Updates will come often. Please report what you hit.
A third game mode next to Campaign and Roguelike: endless, ever-harder waves of enemies on one big arena, for campaign heroes at the top level, alone or in co-op.
How to play
- Pick Wave Defense on the main menu's mode page (after Roguelike). It stays greyed out until you have a campaign hero at max level; the character screen then lists only heroes who qualify.
- Pick the party. The game walks it from town to a quest island and into the arena by itself.
- Survive. Each wave spawns when the last is cleared: +1 enemy level every 2 waves, +15% enemy points every wave. Every 5th wave opens with a Boss. Shrines rise with the arena and are renewed after each boss wave. Each wave is announced in Roman numerals.
- When the party falls, the run ends: a results window shows the wave you fell on and sends you back to the main
menu. Enemies still standing give no gold, experience or loot. Each hero's best wave is kept in
WaveDefenseRecords.txtbeside the game's saves.
Co-op
Everyone needs Wave Defense (this same version), Map Maker and ModNet. The host waits in town behind a Start prompt until everyone has joined. Lightly tested so far: two copies of the game on one PC, not Steam with friends.
Needs
- Map Maker, installed with this mod: the arena is a Map Maker map.
- ModNet for co-op, Mods Menu for the settings in Esc → Options → Mods. Both optional.
Settings
| Setting | Default | |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled | on | Turn Wave Defense on or off |
| AnyFaction | on | Waves come from every enemy faction in the game, not only the arena region's. The host's setting decides |
| AnyBoss | on | A boss wave's Boss can be any Boss in the game. Off: one of the wave's own faction, and no dragon on wave 5. The host's setting decides |

Known gaps (why it's a work in progress)
- Balance is still moving: how fast waves grow, points and boss picks get tuned with each version.
- Co-op has only been tested with two copies of the game on one PC.
- No reward for the run beyond what each wave's enemies drop.
