Waypoint Movement

Waypoint Movement adds routed creature movement to TaleSpire without replacing the game's normal pickup and drop controls.

TaleSpire normally measures a creature's movement as a single straight line from where it was picked up to where it is currently being dragged. That works fine in an open room, but it becomes awkward when a creature needs to move around a wall, doorway, vehicle, piece of cover, or any other obstacle.

Waypoint Movement lets you mark turns in the route while you are still carrying the creature. The displayed distance follows the complete path through every waypoint instead of measuring straight through the obstacle.

Controls

  1. Hold Left Mouse Button to pick up and drag a creature normally.
  2. While continuing to hold Left Mouse Button, tap Right Mouse Button to place a waypoint at the creature's current position.
  3. Continue dragging and tap Right Mouse Button again to add as many additional waypoints as you need.
  4. Release Left Mouse Button to drop the creature normally.
  5. While still dragging, press Backspace to remove the most recent waypoint.

The intended flow is:

Hold LMB -> Drag -> RMB -> Drag -> RMB -> Drag -> Release LMB

What changes when a waypoint is added?

Until the first waypoint is placed, TaleSpire's normal creature movement ruler behaves normally.

After the first waypoint:

  • The normal straight-line movement ruler is hidden for that drag.
  • A persistent waypoint route is drawn through the pickup point, every waypoint, and the creature's current position.
  • The distance shown beside the creature is the total routed distance.
  • The distance uses the board's current TaleSpire measurement unit instead of Unity world units.
  • Additional waypoints can be added without dropping the creature.

Releasing the creature ends waypoint mode and restores TaleSpire's normal movement behavior for the next pickup.

Why use it?

Waypoint Movement is useful whenever the actual route matters more than straight-line displacement. For example:

  • Moving around corners and walls
  • Following hallways
  • Going around vehicles or terrain
  • Measuring movement through doorways
  • Navigating cover during combat
  • Tracking a winding route without repeatedly dropping and picking up a mini

Instead of remembering the distance of every individual leg, you can measure the whole route in one movement.

Requirements

The mod manager will install the required dependency automatically:

  • BepInExPack for TaleSpire

Waypoint Movement does not require Cyberpunk PINK. It is a standalone TaleSpire utility and can be used with any game system.

Installation

Install Waypoint Movement with r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager, then launch TaleSpire using Start modded.

There is no separate installer and no local compilation step for players.

Configuration

No configuration is required for normal use.

BepInEx creates the configuration file:

BepInEx/config/org.cyberpunkpink.plugins.WaypointMovement.cfg

Available settings include:

  • WaypointEpsilon - Minimum world-space separation between consecutive route points.
  • RouteLineWidth - Width of the waypoint route line.
  • DiagnosticLogging - Enables additional waypoint and measurement messages in the BepInEx log.

The defaults are intended to work without adjustment.

Compatibility

Waypoint Movement deliberately leaves TaleSpire in control of creature pickup and placement. It adds waypoint input and route visualization while a creature is being held rather than replacing TaleSpire's native movement system.

Because of that, ordinary creature movement remains unchanged when no waypoint is used.

Cyberpunk PINK

This mod was developed as part of the Cyberpunk PINK TaleSpire project, where routed movement is especially useful for tactical combat in dense streets, interiors, cover, and vehicles.

The standalone Waypoint Movement mod only handles waypoint routing and measurement. Cyberpunk PINK-specific turn movement limits and per-turn movement history are handled separately by the Cyberpunk PINK integration layer.
