PaladinMod
Consecrate your tower shields at a Dvergr shrine from the Black Forest on. Blocked hits strike back with divine damage that sears the undead; later shields bless allies with Eitr. WIP, AI-generated.PaladinMod
Work in progress: this mod is still in development and testing, so expect bugs and balance changes. The code was generated with AI assistance.
Raise your shield, protect your friends. PaladinMod lets you consecrate your tower shields at a Dvergr Paladin Shrine, from the Black Forest onwards. Consecrated shields block like their vanilla versions, but every blow you block strikes the attacker with divine damage, a holy power that sears the undead. From the black metal tower shield on, they also use your Eitr to bless nearby allies with regeneration.
| Consecrated shield | Divine reflect | Paladin's blessing |

Abilities
Divine reflect (all consecrated shields)
Each blocked hit returns part of the blocked damage to the attacker as divine damage, with golden sparks.
- 10% without upgrades, +2% per upgrade, up to 20% with all 5 upgrades.
Divine damage is a new damage type added by this mod:
- Undead are weak to it: they take 150% damage. This includes Draugr, skeletons, ghosts, the Charred, and every creature that is weak to spirit damage.
- Everything else resists it: other creatures take 50% damage.
Paladin's blessing (black metal and flametal)
When you block a hit, you and every player within 5 m regenerate health:
| Shield | Healing | Eitr cost | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consecrated black metal tower shield | 40 HP over 10 s | 20 | 10 s |
| Consecrated flametal tower shield | 60 HP over 10 s | 30 | 10 s |
You need Eitr for the blessing, so eat food that gives Eitr. If you run out, you'll see "Not enough Eitr" and the blessing waits until you have enough. The reflect is free and always works.
How to get them
1. Build the Dvergr Paladin Shrine
Build it with the Hammer, in the Crafting tab, near a Workbench:
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Stone | 20 |
| Wood | 10 |
| Thunderstone | 1 |
The shrine needs no roof, fire or extensions, and it can repair your consecrated shields.
2. Consecrate a tower shield
Bring a fully upgraded vanilla tower shield to the shrine and pay:
| Ingredient | Consecration | Upgrade 1 | Upgrade 2 | Upgrade 3 | Upgrade 4 | Upgrade 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fully upgraded tower shield | 1 | – | – | – | – | – |
| Coins | 200 | – | – | – | – | – |
| Thunderstone | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Refined Eitr (black metal and flametal only) | 10 | 5 | 10 | 15 | 20 | 25 |
Coins and Thunderstones are available from the trader. All upgrades are also done at the shrine; each one raises the reflect by 2%.
Tip: the recipe appears once you've picked up its materials. If the Craft button stays grey while you have all the ingredients, check that your tower shield is really at its maximum level.
Installation
Install with a mod manager (Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman), which also installs the requirements:
- BepInExPack Valheim
- Jötunn
Multiplayer: every player and the server need this mod installed.
Configuration
All values can be changed in the config file com.yourname.paladinmod.cfg.
Open it with your mod manager's Config editor, or find it in BepInEx\config. You can change:
- the reflect percentages, the number of upgrades and the required base shield level
- divine damage against undead and other creatures, and which creatures count as undead
- healing, Eitr cost, radius and cooldown of each blessing
- the colour of the golden effects, shields and shrine
Settings marked "restart needed" only apply after restarting the game.
Known limitations
- The shields and the shrine are gold-recoloured vanilla models for now.
- Only the player holding the shield sees the golden blessing and divine hit effects. The healing and damage themselves work for everyone.
- Divine damage numbers appear in the normal white colour.
Planned
- [x] Golden inventory icons
- [ ] Paladin textures (white and gold, sun emblem)
- [ ] Server-enforced config
- [ ] Matching armor set with a set bonus
