Curtains that behave like cloth. Open the hammer and go to the Curtains tab.
Fabrics
All twelve come in normal (2 m), Tall (3 m) and Grand (4 m) sizes:
- Black Satin, with gold tie-backs
- White Satin, with black tie-backs
- White Sheer, with ribbon bows
- Black Satin over White Sheer: the satin ties back to reveal the sheer behind it
- Embroidered Voile: white voile with leafy embroidery along the hem, tied with linen ribbon bows
- Red Satin, Royal Blue Satin and Forest Green Satin, with gold tie-backs
- Burgundy Velvet: deep and matte, with gold tie-backs
- Black Lace: lace flowers on a fine net with a scalloped hem, light shows through the pattern; black tie-backs
- Black Floral Lace: dense floral lace (roses, leaves and curling scrolls on a honeycomb net) with a scalloped hem; black tie-backs
- Spider Web Lace: orb webs with little spiders, some hanging on a thread, and a hem of web fans; black tie-backs
The fabrics are made from Valheim's own cloth materials, so they match the game.
Using them
- E ties the curtain back into a cinched bundle, or lets it down. Everyone on the server sees the same state.
- Resize: aim at a curtain and press ] for wider or [ for narrower. Hold Shift to change the height instead. Sizes go from 0.5 m to 40 m, are saved, and are seen by everyone.
- Physics: the cloth sways in Valheim's wind (calmer indoors), and the fabric parts and settles back when you walk through it.
- Snapping: the rod ends snap to wall edges.
All curtains are free to build.
Install
Every player and the server need it. If the server does not have it, the Curtains tab is hidden: nothing can be placed and lost, and you can still join that server. If the server runs an older version, only the curtains it has are shown, so newer fabrics cannot be placed there and lost either.
- Players: install it with Gale, r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager. Jötunn is installed with it.
- Dedicated server: install it the same way, or copy
plugins\CogaCurtains.dllinto the server'sBepInEx\plugins\folder and restart the server.
Settings
The config file is BepInEx\config\com.c0ga.curtains.cfg:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Look.ClothPhysics |
true | Turn this off for static curtains, the cheapest option. |
Resize.WiderKey / NarrowerKey |
] / [ |
The resize keys. |
Safety.AllowOnRemoteServers |
false | Not needed to play on a server that has this mod: the Curtains tab turns on by itself there. Turning this on forces the tab on even when the server does not have the mod, and that server would delete any curtains you place. |
About this mod
- No asset files. Curtain meshes and fabric textures are generated when the game starts. They are built from Valheim's own cloth materials and textures, read from the game at runtime. No game files or other mods' assets are included in this package.
- Networking. When you join, the game asks the server whether it has this mod, and the server answers with the list of curtain piece names it has (so a newer client never places a curtain an older server would delete). Curtain size and tie state are saved with the world like any other piece. Nothing else is sent anywhere.
- Made with AI assistance. The code was written with Claude, an AI assistant, and tested in game by the author and their friends.
- Source and bugs. The source code is not public yet. Report problems on the Thunderstore page.
