More Piles

About

Turn harvests and raw ingredients into buildable storage and decoration using Valheim's own item models. Each pile stores 50 items; tray pieces also cost 2 Wood. Dismantle the pile to recover the full cost, split into normal item stack sizes.

Each ingredient has two shapes in one build-menu entry: the original natural heap or bundle, and a broader, flatter version for stacking. Press Left Alt while building to switch the preview. New piles use the selected shape; placed piles keep their own shape.

Piles are fixed storage pieces without chest windows or partial deposits. Their visible item count is decorative. They persist with the world, have 100 base health, and use the same wooden-piece weather and support rules as the bone stack. They can support other build pieces and be stacked on top of one another. They provide no comfort bonus. Placed meat cannot be eaten, and egg piles do not hatch.

Requires BepInEx 5 for Valheim and Jötunn 2.30.2 or later on the host or dedicated server and every client, with the same MorePiles version.

Size and appearance

  • Vegetables, greens and mushrooms: natural heaps, approximately 1–1.2 metres across and 0.35–0.75 metres high.
  • Barley and flax: upright sheaves, approximately 0.7 metres across and 1.15 metres tall.
  • Berries: smaller heaps, approximately 0.8 metres across.
  • Raw meat: layered cuts on wooden trays, approximately 1.1 × 0.9 metres. Height varies with the cut.
  • Seeds and grains: shallow wooden trays, approximately 0.85 × 0.72 metres.
  • Eggs, honey and sap: compact trays using the corresponding vanilla item models.

Flat shapes use broad, staggered layers with rounded edges and varied item angles. Loose piles nest slightly when stacked to reduce gaps. Flat crop bundles lie horizontally with retaining ties, and flat trays have wooden corner supports for stacking. Both shapes use the same ingredient models, materials and recipe costs. Original-shape piles keep their existing appearance.

Meshes and materials are shared between instances. Readable item geometry is combined by material; other items reuse their original meshes directly. Every placed pile has one persistent network object and one collider. Distant piles are culled. No vanilla model or texture files are distributed in the package.

How to use

  1. Discover the required materials to unlock each recipe.
  2. Equip the Hammer and select More Piles. Pieces also have Stacks, Storage and Decor tags.
  3. Aim where you want to build and press Left Alt to switch between Original and Flat top. The preview changes and a message confirms the selected shape. This choice carries over when selecting another pile during the session.
  4. Place and rotate using normal building controls. Snap points align piles beside or on top of one another, including mixed shapes and ingredients. Aim at the top of a pile to stack another on it. Hold the game's alternate-placement control for free placement without snapping. No workbench is required.
  5. Dismantle with the Hammer when you want the stored items back. Switching shape only affects the building preview; it does not reshape already placed piles.

Configuration

The first launch creates BepInEx/config/Dyls123.MorePiles.cfg.

Section / Setting Default Purpose
30 - Keybinds / TogglePileShape LeftAlt Switch the selected pile's preview between original and flat shapes. Use None to disable.
40 - Display / ShowStoredAmount true Show the fixed storage amount in hover text.

The keybind and display preference stay local. Each placed pile's shape is shared with other players through the saved build piece. Storage capacity and costs are fixed, so there are no gameplay settings for a server to override. Existing [Display] values migrate automatically. Edit the file with the game closed, or use a compatible in-game config manager.

Support

Jötunn registers the custom build pieces and checks matching MorePiles versions across the server and clients. Everyone joining needs the mod and its dependencies; console clients cannot load it. Piles reuse vanilla item models and textures.

Manual installation

  1. Install BepInEx 5 for Valheim and Jötunn 2.30.2 or later.
  2. Create BepInEx/plugins/Dyls123-MorePiles/ in the game installation or active mod-manager profile.
  3. Copy MorePiles.dll from the release ZIP into that folder.
  4. Keep only one copy of the DLL and launch the game to generate the config.

The versioned ZIP and Dyls123-MorePiles.zip use the same Thunderstore-compatible layout, with the DLL at the ZIP root. A mod manager installs the package and its declared dependencies automatically.

Install on the dedicated server or host and every player's game.
