GroupBoard

Keep the whole group on the same page: a shared to-do list on a board in your base, readable from across the room and editable by everyone.

At a glance

  • A buildable board that shows your open tasks on its face, written large enough to read across the room. Small, medium or large.
  • One live list for the whole server: add, tick off, edit, reorder and delete tasks in a simple window.
  • See who did what: every task shows who added it and who finished it.
  • Any sign can be a to-do list: write Todo or Todo: Farm on it.
  • Follows the ward: outsiders can read the board, but only players with access can change it.
  • Up to 50 tasks per board by default; the host can allow up to 200.

Needs Jotunn. Everyone on the server needs GroupBoard, a dedicated server too.

Features

The Group board

A building piece with your list on its face. A short list is written large; a longer one gets smaller writing, and tasks that still don't fit are counted as "+N more". Give it a name of up to 40 characters, shown at the top, and pick its size: small, medium or large.

One shared list

Everyone sees the same list, updated live. Finished tasks move below the open ones, and each task shows who added it and who ticked it off. Two players editing at once don't overwrite each other's changes.

Todo signs

A normal sign whose text starts with Todo works as a board too (To do and To-do as well, in any capitals). Its hover text shows the title, the number of open and finished tasks and the first open tasks. The host can turn this off.

Follows the ward

Inside a ward, only players with access can change, resize or rename the board; everyone else can still read it.

How to use

The Group board is built with the hammer, in the Misc tab, and needs a workbench nearby. Default cost: 6 Wood and 1 Coal (the host can change it). A new board is medium-sized and named "To-do".

  1. Look at a board: a Group board lists the open tasks on its face, and the hover text of any board shows the first few.
  2. Press E to open the full list:
    • Type a task and press Enter (or click Add).
    • Tick a task when it is done; it moves below the open tasks.
    • Edit changes a task; ▲ and ▼ move it up or down.
    • ✕ deletes a task; Clear done removes all finished tasks.
  3. On a Group board, the window also has:
    • Board size: small, medium or large.
    • Text size: how small the writing gets on a long list (70% to 200%, in 10% steps). A short list still grows to fill the board. Once someone sets it, everyone sees that size on this board; until then each player sees their own Board text size.
  4. Press Shift + E (or Q with the Zen mods) to rename the board. This needs access to the ward, if there is one.

The window closes with Esc or Close, and when you walk more than 8 m away. While it is open, the game's controls are paused as in any text box.

Key Action
E Open the list of a Group board or Todo sign
Shift + E Rename a Group board, or edit a Todo sign's text
Enter Add the typed task, or save an edit
Esc Close the window

Todo signs

Write Todo on a normal sign, or a title such as Todo: Farm. E opens the same window, without the size controls, and Shift + E edits the sign's text as usual. With the host's Todo signs off, signs are just signs and only the Group board is a board.

Configuration

Settings are in BepInEx/config/anwo.GroupBoard.cfg and can be changed in game with a configuration manager.

1 - Host

Setting Default Scope Description
Max tasks 50 Server The most tasks one board can hold (5-200)
Max task length 120 Server Longest task text, in characters (20-300)
Group board recipe Wood:6,Coal:1 Server Cost of the Group board, as Item:Amount pairs separated by commas, with prefab names (as in the game's files). Applies without a restart; unknown items are left out
Todo signs true Server A normal sign whose text starts with Todo works as a board. Off: only the Group board is a board

2 - Window

Setting Default Scope Description
Close distance 8 Client The window closes when you walk further than this from the board, in metres (3-50)
Scale 1 Client Size of the window (0.6-2.5); it shrinks to fit a small screen

3 - Look

Setting Default Scope Description
Tasks shown on hover 3 Client How many open tasks the hover text lists (0-10)
Board text size 1.3 Client Text size on a Group board with a long list, until someone sets the board's Text size; 1.3 = 130% (0.7-2)

Multiplayer

  • Everyone needs the mod, including a dedicated server. Jotunn checks this when a player joins: the first two numbers of the version must match (any 1.1.x works with any other 1.1.x).
  • The host's 1 - Host settings apply to everyone who joins. A changed recipe takes effect right away.
  • The list is saved on the board itself, with the world, and synced like a sign's text. Every change is made by the one game that looks after the board (usually a player near it), on the list as it is right then, so changes made at the same time are all kept.
  • Editing follows the ward. Without access to the ward, the board can be read but not changed, resized or renamed.
  • When the game hides a sign's text from a player (for example text by someone they have blocked), the board's tasks are hidden from them too.

Compatibility

  • Requires Jotunn.
  • The Group board holds no other pieces up, so mods that move pieces, such as ZenRedecorate, can move it.
  • Signs that don't start with Todo behave as usual.
  • Patches: Sign (start-up, text, hover text and use) and TextInput.IsVisible (pauses the game's controls while the window is open).

Uninstalling

Group boards stop loading (the game logs them as missing). Todo signs become normal signs again, showing their own text.
