Ziplines
Build zipline posts, tie ropes up to 150 m between them and fly down valleys and across fjords. Pull yourself uphill, brake, or catch a rope in mid-jump.Ziplines
Build zipline posts, tie ropes up to 150 m between them, and ride down valleys and across fjords at up to 72 km/h.
Ziplines adds a post to build and a rope to carry from one post to the next. Hang from the trolley and ride: gravity takes you downhill, and you pull yourself along the other way.
Features
- Zipline post. A log post with an iron pulley and a coil of spare rope.
- Ropes up to 150 m. Each post holds up to 4 ropes, so one hilltop post can reach the dock, the farm and the mine.
- Hang on and ride. You hang from a trolley's handle and the mouse swivels you around. Other players see the ride.
- Real riding. Gravity speeds you up downhill. Uphill you pull yourself along hand over hand, and slide back when you stop. An automatic brake slows you before the far post.
- Only ropes that work. Ropes that would drag a rider through the ground, water, trees, rocks or buildings are refused, with the reason.
- Get on anywhere. Ride from either end, or jump into a rope anywhere along it to catch it.
- No new hotkeys. Only the game's own keys, so no clashes with other mods.
How to use
The Zipline post is in the Hammer's Misc tab and needs a Workbench. It costs 8 Wood, 4 Leather scraps and 2 Iron.
- Build two posts, up to 150 m apart.
- Press
Shift+Eon the first post to take a rope. - Look at the second post: the hover text shows the rope's length, or why it cannot be tied (too far, too steep, something in the way). Press
Shift+Eto tie it. - Press
Eon either post to ride. With several ropes on a post, look along the one you want.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Shift + E on a post |
Take a rope, tie it, or put it back on its first post |
E on a post |
Ride |
Hold E for a second |
Drop a carried rope (hammer away, not looking at a door, chest or post) |
Hold W (riding) |
Pull yourself along, also uphill (uses stamina) |
Hold S or block (riding) |
Brake |
Space, E or attack (riding) |
Let go; you keep your speed and fall damage applies |
Stop pulling uphill and you slide back, at worst to the post you started from. Out of stamina, hold W to hang on until you catch your breath. Overweight, you cannot pull, but W still keeps you from sliding back.
A carried rope slips back if you walk further than it is long, go through a portal, sit, steer a ship or ride, or if the first post is moved or taken down. You cannot ride with a rope in your hand, or take or tie ropes inside a ward you have no access to. Take down either post and its ropes come down; anyone riding them falls.

Multiplayer
- Everyone needs the mod, the host or dedicated server included. Jotunn stops a player without it from joining. The first two parts of the version must match (1.0.x).
- The host's Rules and Riding settings are sent to every player who joins, the post's cost included.
- Ropes are saved with the world and load from further away than normal, so long ropes work from either end.
Compatibility
- Requires Jotunn. Patches no game code; riding uses the same game system as a ship's helm.
- A post moved with a moving mod (such as ZenRedecorate) takes its ropes along if they still fit; otherwise they are taken down, as are ropes whose post another mod removed.
Uninstalling
Posts and ropes stop loading (the game logs them as missing). Take the posts down first to get their materials back.
