Andvari
Craft and build straight out of the chests around you. Every station and the hammer draw from nearby storage, carts and ships included. Only ever reaches chests you could already open by hand.Andvari
Craft and build from the chests around you, without taking anything out of them first.
Valheim only ever spends materials from your backpack. That turns every station into a round trip: open a chest, drag out what you need, close it, craft, put the leftovers back. Andvari lets stations and the hammer take what they need straight from nearby storage.
What It Does
- Every crafting station: workbench, forge, cauldron, artisan table, stonecutter, galdr table, and stations other mods add
- Crafting, upgrading and repairing
- Build costs for the hammer, hoe and cultivator
- Item Drawers, carts and ships all count as nearby storage
Your backpack is always used first. Chests only cover what is missing.
The requirement list works the way it always did, except that it counts the chests beside you, so a cost the chests can cover no longer flashes red.
What It Will Not Take
Andvari can only use a chest you could walk up and open yourself. It adds reach, not permission.
- A ward that does not permit you blocks the chest, exactly as it blocks your hands
- A chest set to Private belongs to whoever built it
- A chest someone else has open right now is left alone
Nothing is moved, sorted or rearranged. Your inventory is never touched.
Settings
BepInEx/config/gbv.valheim.andvari.cfg, or the Configuration Manager in game. Changes take
effect straight away.
| Setting | Default | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
Enabled |
true |
Turn everything off without uninstalling |
Range |
10 |
How far a chest can be, in metres. 0 means backpack only, which is how the game behaves normally. Maximum 40 |
IncludeVehicles |
true |
Whether a cart or ship parked nearby counts |
Crafting |
true |
Whether the crafting and upgrade panel uses chests |
Building |
true |
Whether the hammer, hoe and cultivator use chests |
Range is measured from you, not from the station, so the hammer behaves the same at the far end of a build as it does standing at the bench.
Crafting and building are separate so you can have a workshop that stocks itself while still carrying stone to a build site by hand.
If Something Looks Wrong
Check BepInEx/LogOutput.log for a line starting Andvari:. It reports at startup how many of its
five parts attached. All five means it is working. Fewer means a Valheim update has moved
something, and the log says which part and what you will notice; that is worth reporting.
If a chest is being ignored, check the three rules above first, then whether it is further away
than Range.
MultiUserChest: two people crafting from the same chest at the same moment has had little testing. Report anything odd.
Installing
Client only. A server install does nothing, and other players do not need it. If you have it and they do not, you craft from chests and they do not.
