Skeid
Two cars, a motorcycle and an aeroplane. Keys you hand out, and they drive through trees.Skeid
Two drivable cars, a motorcycle and an aeroplane for Valheim, with arcade handling.
Skeið is Old Norse for a race or a course, and also a class of longship.
The Vehicles
The coupe is a '67 muscle car. Two seats, and you can paint it any colour.
The lowrider is a 1964 Impala convertible. Four seats, the top is down, and you can see everyone sitting in it.
The motorcycle is a classic two-stroke. One rider, who sits on it and holds the handlebars. It will not fall over.
The aeroplane is a WW1 biplane. One seat, and it flies.
All four have suspension, a handbrake you can slide on, a boost, and an engine note that answers the throttle. They fell any tree they hit, crush the rocks and bushes that would otherwise stop you dead, and pick up anything you drive over rather than destroying it. They float if you put them in water, and take no damage themselves.
Keys
Vehicles come out of a key rather than being left lying around. Right-click a Car Key and your coupe appears in front of you. Right-click again and it goes away. A Lowrider Key, a Motorcycle Key and an Aeroplane Key do the same for the others.
Any key works, and you can have one of each kind out at a time. To put one away you have to be within about twenty metres of it, and it will not vanish with somebody sitting in it.
Keys are ordinary items, so they can be dropped, traded and given out as prizes.
An admin spawns keys and vehicles from the Highseat Skeid tab or the console.
Driving
| W / S | throttle and brake |
| A / D | steer |
| Shift | boost |
| Right mouse | handbrake, hold it into a corner to slide |
| Space | handbrake, hydraulics in the lowrider, takeoff in the aeroplane |
| Use | get out |
The lowrider is long enough to beach itself on rough ground. Press Space and it hops on its hydraulics, which is usually enough to shake it free.
If you land a car on its roof, get out and hold Use on it to flip it back over. The motorcycle holds itself upright, so it will not end up there.
If you ever cannot get out of something, type skeid out in the console. It works for everyone,
not just admins.
Flying
Double-tap Space in the aeroplane and it leaps into the air. Double-tap again to cut the engine and come down. Touching the ground lands it, and it drives away on its wheels.
In the air it handles like a car with the ground taken away:
| W / S | go and stop. Let go and it holds position |
| A / D | turn |
| Look up / down | climb and dive, while you are moving |
| Space twice | land |
Looking around does not steer it, so you can enjoy the view. There is no airspeed to keep up and nothing to stall, and stepping out at altitude drops the aeroplane rather than the pilot.
The Driving Skill
Driving levels a Driving skill. It shows up in the skills window like any other, goes up as you cover ground, and stays with you between sessions.
Every level makes whatever you are driving faster and quicker off the mark. At 100 it is 20 mph faster and pulls much harder, and the second half of that is what you actually notice: getting out of a corner, up a hill, or moving again after a tree.
Only the driver earns it, and only above walking pace. Reversing counts.
The Speedometer
A dial sits at the bottom of the screen while you are in a vehicle, reading in miles per hour. The amber band marks the part of the scale only the boost reaches, the bar under the numbers is how much boost is left, and your Driving level sits above it. Passengers see it too.
Paint
A spray can repaints your car. Stand next to it, use the can, and pick from fourteen colours. Clicking a colour tries it on the car first, and nothing is used until you press Paint It, so you can look before you spend one.
Your key remembers the colour, so the car comes back the same way you left it. A spare key to the same car learns it too.
Only the bodywork changes. The lowrider keeps its chrome, whitewalls, upholstery and wooden deck; the aeroplane keeps its stripes, roundels and flames; the motorcycle keeps its chrome, tyres, saddle and lamps. On the bike it is the tank and side panels that take the colour.
The Stereo
Press F in a car, or standing next to one you have a key to, and paste a YouTube link. Direct MP3, OGG and WAV links work too, and so do internet radio streams.
The sound comes from the car and fades with distance, so it carries to whoever is nearby. Valheim's own music steps out of the way while it plays. Anyone with a key can change the track, and everyone hears the same moment of it.
YouTube needs Odin on Demand installed. Without it the stereo still plays anything the game can decode on its own.

Settings
The Mods tab under Skeid has the handling: top speed, acceleration, braking, steering lock,
grip, handbrake grip, boost length and cooldown. PaintColour is the coupe's default colour as
an HTML hex code, and StereoRange sets how far the music carries.
The lowrider has its own settings for ride height, seat positions and hop strength, all under Model and Car.
The motorcycle has where its rider sits, how hard it holds itself upright, and whether the rider reaches for the handlebars, under the same two.
Under Flight are the aeroplane's speed, how hard it turns, how steeply it climbs, and how high the takeoff throws it. Its wheels are generated rather than modelled, so Model also has where they sit and how far it stands off the ground.
Under Skill are the Driving skill and the speedometer. You can turn either off, change what the skill is worth at 100, and move or resize the dial.
Skeid logs any setting you have changed from its default when the game starts, so if something does not behave the way the notes say, that line is the first place to look.
Installing
Everyone needs it, including the server, or the vehicles will not exist for them.
Highseat is required for the tab. The vehicles and the console commands work without it.

The coupe is Muscle Car 3D Model by brightretro, from OpenGameArt.
The lowrider is Impala 1964 Lowrider by mrkuza, from Sketchfab.
The aeroplane is Airplane by yanix, from Sketchfab. Its landing gear is not the artist's; the model has none, so Skeid builds wheels for it.
The motorcycle is Motorcycle model "Planeta Sport" by mila3d, from Sketchfab.

Skeid does not redistribute LibVLC. It uses it where it is already installed, so its LGPL licence stays with the package that ships it.
