Lumaheim — Gamma and Brightness Controls

See your saga in a better light.

Lumaheim brings brightness, colour, shadow/highlight detail and depth-of-field controls directly into Valheim's existing Settings → Graphics page. Tune gameplay visuals with native sliders, live previews and local preferences. No extra configuration window or hotkey to remember.

Brightness, colour and detail

  • Gamma: brighten shadows and midtones. Range 0.50–2.50; neutral 1.00.
  • Exposure: overall brightness, from -2 to +2 EV; neutral 0. One positive stop doubles exposure.
  • Contrast: 50–150%; neutral 100%.
  • Saturation: 0–200%; neutral 100%. Zero gives monochrome.
  • Warmth: cooler blue to warmer yellow, -100 to +100; neutral 0.
  • Tint: green to magenta, -100 to +100; neutral 0.
  • Shadow detail: positive values lift dark tones; negative values deepen them. Range -100 to +100; neutral 0.
  • Highlight detail: positive values soften bright tones; negative values brighten them. Range -100 to +100; neutral 0.

Start with small adjustments. For the new detail controls, try +25 to +50 and compare dark interiors with bright outdoor scenery. These are tonal adjustments: they cannot recover information already clipped by the game and do not change shadow resolution or world lighting.

Gameplay depth of field

Enable Depth of field (DOF) in Settings → Accessibility, then adjust it on the Graphics page:

  • Game: leave Valheim's depth of field unchanged. This is the default.
  • Automatic: use native autofocus with your chosen range, strength, foreground blur and quality.
  • Manual: set a fixed focus distance, from 1 to 1000 metres.
  • Focus range: 0.01–2.00 in native effect units, not metres. Wider keeps more scenery sharp.
  • Blur strength: 10–400% of the camera's normal maximum blur radius.
  • Foreground blur: Game, Off or On.
  • DOF quality: Game, Low, Medium, High or High res. Higher settings can cost GPU time.

Controls follow the pending Accessibility toggle immediately, even before OK, and retain their values when switched off. Game mode disables custom adjustments; Manual mode enables focus distance. Valheim applies its native on/off toggle when you click OK, and Lumaheim explains when that change is pending. Autofocus transition speed is unchanged. There is no focus lock or camera-mode control.

Preview, save and share

Changes to Lumaheim settings preview live. OK saves; Back restores your saved preferences. Switching tabs keeps pending adjustments. Reset Lumaheim restores neutral colour/detail controls and Game DOF, and can be saved or cancelled.

Find Share settings above the sliders. Copy settings code copies your current preview. To try someone else's preset, copy their complete code and select Paste settings code in the game; OK saves it and Back cancels it. No config editing is needed. Invalid codes leave settings unchanged.

New LUMA2 codes include all fourteen controls. Earlier LUMA1 codes still import, with Shadow detail and Highlight detail set to zero. Older releases cannot import LUMA2. Codes do not change Valheim's native DOF checkbox.

Installation and updates

Requires BepInEx 5 / BepInExPack_Valheim. Install on your Windows PC using a mod manager, or close Valheim and extract the ZIP into the game folder. The DLL belongs at BepInEx/plugins/Lumaheim/Lumaheim.dll. Replace your previous DLL and keep only one installed copy.

Open Settings → Graphics and scroll to Lumaheim. Existing preferences are preserved; new colour/detail controls default to neutral and DOF defaults to Game. No configuration file is bundled. To uninstall, close Valheim and remove the plugin folder.

Compatibility and notes

  • Client-side only: no server installation or world/save changes. Other players do not need the mod.
  • Uses the native grading pipeline with a cached lookup and the existing gameplay-camera DOF effect. Does not alter camera position, FOV, clipping, time or weather.
  • Targets Windows PC and Valheim's current tabbed settings interface. Mods that replace grading or independently control DOF may conflict.
  • Saga Lens 0.1.6 source was reviewed for overlap; no direct DOF conflict was found. Broad in-game compatibility with all camera/graphics mods is not claimed.
  • These controls adjust scene rendering, not monitor hardware or menu artwork. They are not an HDR calibration tool.
  • Preferences are local in BepInEx/config/com.gomisan.lumaheim.cfg. Close the game before any manual edits. No configuration-manager mod is required.
  • Release features passed author gameplay testing and automated native UI/GPU checks. Please include your game version and other visual mods when reporting an issue.

Thunderstore installation

Install with your mod manager, or close Valheim and copy this package's BepInEx folder into the game folder. Keep only one copy of the mod DLL. No configuration file is bundled; your existing preferences are preserved. These are client-side mods; the dedicated server does not need them.
