YggShootGrowth

Makes Yggdrasil wood renewable. Yggdrasil shoots have no seeds, so in vanilla every shoot you chop is gone for good. With this mod the small Yggdrasil shoots in the Mistlands slowly grow into the large shoots you can chop for Yggdrasil wood, and chopped-down stumps and destroyed small shoots grow back over time.

Features

  • Growth: every small shoot in the world grows into one of the three large Yggdrasil shoots, picked at random. By default this takes about 17–28 in-game days.
  • Crowding: like vanilla saplings, a shoot only grows if it has room. Hover over a shoot to see its growth status, for example whether it needs more room.
  • Regrowth: when a shoot stump or a small shoot is destroyed, a new small shoot appears nearby after a delay. It then grows like any other small shoot.
  • Grow-in animation when a regrown shoot appears (for players who have the mod).
  • Settings can be changed while the game is running, in the config file or with Configuration Manager (F1).

Multiplayer

  • Only the host needs the mod. Friends without it can still join, and see shoots grow and regrow normally.
  • A shoot grows while a player with the mod is the one whose game is handling that area. In practice: shoots near the host grow; shoots only an unmodded friend has visited wait until a modded player comes by. Growth time keeps counting in the meantime.
  • Regrowth is handled by the host, including stumps and shoots destroyed by unmodded friends. A regrown shoot appears once the host is near the spot.
  • Dedicated servers: install the mod on the server for full behaviour. If the server is vanilla, modded players still get growth, and regrowth for the stumps and shoots their own game was handling.

Configuration

The config file is BepInEx/config/irti.yggshootgrowth.cfg, created the first time the game starts with the mod. Times are in seconds of in-game world time (one in-game day is 1800 seconds), so sleeping speeds them up.

Growth

Setting Default Description
GrowTimeMin 30000 Shortest time before a small shoot grows.
GrowTimeMax 50000 Longest time before a small shoot grows. Each shoot picks a fixed time between the two.
GrowRadius 2 Space in meters that must be free around a shoot for it to grow.
GrowOnRocksAndRoots false Let shoots standing on rocks or sap roots grow, and let regrown shoots appear on them.

Regrowth

Setting Default Description
StumpRegrowth true Destroyed shoot stumps regrow as a small shoot.
StumpRegrowthDelaySeconds 1800 Delay before a destroyed stump regrows (one in-game day).
SmallShootRegrowth true Destroyed small shoots regrow.
SmallShootRegrowthDelaySeconds 900 Delay before a destroyed small shoot regrows (half an in-game day).
RegrowthSpreadRadius 4 The new shoot appears at a random spot up to this many meters away. 0 means the same spot.
RegrowthSurvivesRestart true Remember pending regrowths when the world is closed and reopened.

Installation

Mod manager (recommended): install with r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager; BepInEx and Jötunn are installed automatically.

Manual: install BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn, then copy YggShootGrowth.dll into BepInEx/plugins/YggShootGrowth/.

Notes

  • Shoots only change while their area is loaded, as with everything in Valheim. Time that passed while you were away still counts.
  • Lowering the grow time makes shoots that have already waited that long grow within about 20 seconds.
  • Removing the mod is safe: grown shoots stay large shoots, pending regrowths are forgotten, and the few extra values the mod stores on shoots are ignored by the game.
