AzuCraftyBoxes Building Only 1.1.0

Use resources in nearby containers for placing structures, while keeping crafting and resource-processing actions vanilla.

Exact behavior

Mode Building pieces Crafting recipes Smelters, kilns, cooking, fires, fermenters, shields and turrets
Full Nearby chests Nearby chests Nearby chests
BuildingOnly (default) Nearby chests Player inventory only Player inventory only
Disabled Player inventory only Player inventory only Player inventory only

BuildingOnly allows AzuCraftyBoxes only while Valheim checks, displays or consumes requirements for structure placement. Container tracking remains active so a runtime mode change works immediately.

Press F8 by default to switch between Full and BuildingOnly. AzuCraftyBoxes' own enable/disable control still wins; this add-on never forces a chest pull that AzuCraftyBoxes has already blocked.

Multiplayer requirement

Install this package on the dedicated server and every client. The actual building/crafting checks run on each player's game process, so every client needs the patch. The server supplies one authoritative mode and performs the required-mod/version check; a missing or incompatible copy is rejected at connection time.

Lock Configuration, Mod Enabled, and Mode synchronize from the server. The F8 key assignment is local, but when an authorized player uses it, the resulting mode change is synchronized to everyone.

Choose combined or standalone

Do not install this together with ValheimCompatibilityFixes. They contain the same AzuCraftyBoxes patch and are marked incompatible to prevent duplicate patching.

You may install this package together with the separate BreedingUpgradesChickenEggFix package.

Requirements and checked versions

  • BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2333
  • AzuCraftyBoxes 1.8.15

The DLL was compiled against the public Valheim 0.221.4 API. Target methods were checked against that API and AzuCraftyBoxes 1.8.15 source/binary behavior. It has not been run in a live Valheim client in this build environment, so use the copied-profile test below before the main world.

Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman

  1. Download this ZIP without extracting it.
  2. Open the Valheim profile that will use it.
  3. Open Settings and choose Import local mod.
  4. Select AzuCraftyBoxesBuildingOnly-1.1.0.zip.
  5. Confirm this package and AzuCraftyBoxes appear under Installed.
  6. Put version 1.1.0 on every client and the dedicated server, then launch once to generate the config.

If local import is unavailable, manually place AzuCraftyBoxesBuildingOnly.dll in BepInEx/plugins/AzuCraftyBoxesBuildingOnly/.

Config

Generated at:

BepInEx/config/local.valheim.azucraftyboxesbuildingonly.cfg

Setting Default Purpose
1 - General / Lock Configuration true Server controls synchronized settings; only server admins may change them.
1 - General / Mod Enabled true Server-synced. Off leaves AzuCraftyBoxes unchanged.
2 - AzuCraftyBoxes / Mode BuildingOnly Server-synced. Select Full, BuildingOnly, or Disabled.
2 - AzuCraftyBoxes / Toggle Full and Building Only F8 Local key assignment. An allowed use changes the synchronized mode for everyone.

With the default lock, edit the dedicated server's config or use F8/configuration tools as a listed server admin. A non-admin client's F8 press cannot override the server. Saving the server config while it is running reloads and broadcasts the synchronized settings. If the lock is deliberately disabled, any connected client may change the shared mode.

Compatibility notes

  • AzuAutoStore: compatible by design. AutoStore deposits items; CraftyBoxes withdraws them. This add-on patches only AzuCraftyBoxes' ShouldPrevent result and normal Valheim building contexts.
  • AzuAutoStore + ExtraSlots: AutoStore 3.0.14 does not identify ExtraSlots quick slots. Its store-all shortcut can therefore move an unfavorited quick-slot item into a nearby eligible chest. It transfers the item; it does not delete it. AutoStore's Player Ignore Quick Slots option does not currently recognize ExtraSlots, so favorite the item or slot in AutoStore and test once on a copied character.
  • Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition: uses Valheim's normal placement flow, so chest-funded placement should behave the same through Build Camera.
  • NoBuildRestriction / Build Restriction Tweaks: changes placement validity rather than resource withdrawal. No direct Harmony target collision was found.

Copied-profile test

  1. Put hammer-piece materials only in a nearby chest. Confirm BuildingOnly shows and consumes them when placing a structure.
  2. Put crafting materials only in that chest. Confirm the recipe remains unavailable until the materials are carried.
  3. Repeat with smelter ore/fuel, cooking food/fuel, a fire, fermenter, turret and shield generator. Each should require carried items.
  4. As the host/server admin, press F8 and confirm the center message says Full. Confirm crafting or a machine can now pull from a nearby chest.
  5. Press F8 again and confirm those pulls stop while structure placement still works.
  6. Repeat one chest-funded placement through Build Camera, then check the BepInEx log for errors.

Uninstall

Remove this package from the server and all clients, then restart. AzuCraftyBoxes returns to its normal full behavior.
