Summary

This is a port of Loki's Immersion mods to Mistlands

Features

Various minimods enhancing immersion! Each minimod can be activated individually so you can customize your experience to your liking. We also recommend our First Person mod as an addition to this mod, or any alternative first person mod out there (as long as it doesn't conflict!).

Hide minimap
Hide enemy health bars
Hide crosshair
Build without workbench
Meditation mod

Hide minimap

Hides the minimap! With this mod enabled, you can choose to permanently disable the minimap, or allow yourself to toggle it by using a hotkey. If you're thinking "But Loki, how will I be able to find bosses if I can't see their icon on the minimap?", then take a look at the meditation mod also included!

Hide enemy health bars

This removes the enemy health bars and status icons that float above enemies. It also removes the big boss healthbar. Obviously this means you can't see how much health an enemy has remaining, but it also means that enemies are harder to track when running away since they don't have a giant banner above their head.

Hide crosshair

Hides the crosshair. Can be toggled by hotkey.

Build without workbench

With the minimap disabled, you might want to place signposts in the world, helping you navigate back to your bases or to specific areas. Normally, you'd have to place a workbench before being able to build. With this mod, you can configure which pieces don't need a crafting station nearby, or which crafting stations should be ignored altogether when building (e.g. never need a workbench nearby).

Meditation mod

This is an alternative to the default minimap, hoping to strike a balance between immersion and game features. You can enter meditation mode by sitting down while having a rested status (the status with the countdown to zero). Once both conditions are met, a halo will appear above your head pointing towards where each known map marker can be found (by default only known boss markers). Meditation does have a maximum range, based on your rested bonus countdown. Each second is one meter, so with a higher rested bonus you'll be able to track locations that are further away. Still don't see the new boss location you discovered? Improve your home to increase the bonus, or travel across the sea and meditate in new lands!

The meditation mod is still quite proof-of-concept, so any suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Game experience with these mods

The goal of these mods is to increase immersion by reducing visual information while not making things too tedious. It is aimed at making exploration more thrilling and difficult since you can't just rely on the minimap. We hope that meditation mode helps fill the gap of the minimap without making exploration a cakewalk by relying on the minimap.

Hunting is also more challenging, as you'll need to rely on sound and sight more than tracking a healthbar. And since you don't know how much health enemies have left, it's more difficult to determine whether to go all-in with attacks or be more careful to block the next incoming blow.

The workbench mod is a convenience since some pieces are so simple, a workbench shouldn't be required. Instead of allowing all pieces by default, we're limiting it to simple poles and signs, but if you want you can remove any dependency on nearby workbenches. But by still preventing the construction of more complex pieces, we hope to avoid cheese due to construction during fights.

Most of these mods are customizable to be more or less restrictive than their default settings, so be sure to take a look at each config file! We also highly recommend a first person mod together with these mods.
