WayfarerRecall
Native-style recall and player travel for Valheim, including spawn, locations, death, boats, and Port to Player.Wayfarer Recall
Controls
Wayfarer Recall keeps the keyboard controls simple:
- O — Open the Port to Player menu.
- Left Alt — Temporarily free the mouse cursor so you can click the gold compass rose beside the minimap.
The Port to Player menu also provides dedicated recall buttons:
- House — Return to Spawn
- Target — Last Location
- Boat — Last Boat
- Maltese Cross — Last Death
Last Location cycles through your two most recently saved non-boat departure locations when both are available.
The O player-menu hotkey can be changed in MaddCatter.WayfarerRecall.cfg.
Carried metals, ore, and other inventory contents do not prevent recall.
Player Travel
Press O to open the Port to Player menu, or hold Left Alt to free the cursor and click the gold compass rose beside the minimap. The menu uses Valheim's own panel, button, and font styles. The drop-down lists every other character currently connected to the server and refreshes while it is open. When nobody else is connected, the menu still opens with an empty player list.
Valheim's public-position choice is respected. A player who is sharing their map position can be selected as a destination. A player who has hidden their position remains visible in the list as location hidden, but cannot be used as a destination.
Player travel arrives beside the selected character's latest shared position with a small amount of vertical clearance. The departure point is added to the two locations used by Last Location, unless the traveler leaves from a boat.
Pressing Escape while the Port to Player menu is open closes Wayfarer Recall first. Press Escape again to open Valheim's normal pause menu.
Installation
Install with r2modman/Thunderstore Mod Manager, or place WayfarerRecall.dll in BepInEx/plugins/WayfarerRecall/.
The normal settings are written to BepInEx/config/MaddCatter.WayfarerRecall.cfg. Saved destinations are kept separately in MaddCatter.WayfarerRecall.state.cfg and are isolated by character and world.
Notifications
The default notification mode is ErrorsOnly. Successful recalls remain unobtrusive, while missing destinations, cooldowns, unavailable boats, and unexpected failures appear as high-luminance warm text with a thick black outline. The contrast remains readable without relying on color differentiation.
Notifications.Mode can be changed to All or Off in the configuration file. Display time is configurable with Notifications.DurationSeconds.
Boat Behavior
The most recent boat occupied by the local player is remembered. If the boat is loaded, recall selects a position above its main hull collider near the vessel's center and slightly to one side of the mast. If it is unloaded, recall uses its live ZDO position and places the player above it while the area loads.
Using Return to Spawn or Port to Player while aboard a boat remembers the vessel but does not replace the ordinary locations used by Last Location.
Compatibility
Wayfarer Recall 1.2.0 has been built and tested with Valheim 1.0.16 and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351.
The mod is built against the current Valheim managed assemblies used during development and testing. Multiplayer testing has also been performed with another player connected.
Wayfarer Recall is a client-side mod. Each player who wants to use its features should install it locally; the server does not need a separate Wayfarer Recall installation. Future Valheim updates may require compatibility testing before they can be considered supported.
Things Being Tested
A rare multiplayer boat-state anomaly is still being watched. During testing, Valheim has occasionally reported an unexpected extra player aboard a vessel even though only two real players were connected. A visible duplicate-player effect was observed during an earlier raft test, but it has not been consistently reproducible.
If you encounter a duplicate player, unusual boat recall, or another repeatable multiplayer issue, please report what happened and include your BepInEx log if possible.
Independent Implementation
Wayfarer Recall is an independently written, clean-room implementation based on desired behavior and in-game observation. It contains no code, assets, identifiers, or configuration from PersonalTeleports.
The original PersonalTeleports mod by DeadMoroz inspired the familiar recall workflow: https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/DeadMoroz/PersonalTeleports/
