Build a large stone shrine to Odin, Thor, Freyja, Njord or Loki, lay gifts on the altar and earn the god's favor. Favor unlocks four tiers of blessings. You serve one patron god; a patron who is neglected grows angry — and Loki plays tricks on everyone who follows him.
Shrines
Five custom stone models (about 4.5 × 4.5 m, up to 5 m tall) with carved relief (normal maps), Norse interlace bands and statues — Odin's wolves Geri and Freki, the bound Loki's chains and scaled serpents, Njord's oars and carved prow, Freyja's glowing flowers, Thor's lightning inlays, built with the hammer in their own tab Gods (near a workbench). The runes on each shrine glow in the god's colour and an offering flame burns on the altar. Building one is a real project:
| Shrine | Look | Build cost (default) |
|---|---|---|
| Odin | Monolith with the Valknut and Odin's eye, Gungnir spears, the ravens Huginn and Muninn, offering bowl | Stone 300, Wood 100, Feathers 20, Deer trophy 3 |
| Thor | Mjölnir resting on a pedestal, four rune posts, anvil altar | Stone 300, Wood 100, Flint 30, Hard antler 3 |
| Freyja | Stone circle, arch with Brísingamen, Freyja's cats, round altar | Stone 300, Wood 100, Dandelion 20, Honey 10 |
| Njord | Stone longship with a coiled prow and shields on a rocky shore, glowing sea in the hull, Laguz stele | Stone 300, Wood 100, Neck tail 10, Resin 20 |
| Loki | Twin serpents around a twisted pillar on a cracked base, Sigyn's bowl with venom, rune slab | Stone 300, Wood 100, Surtling core 3, Resin 20 |
The shrine window
Press E on a shrine. The window has three tabs and a favor panel:
- OFFERING — everything in your inventory this god accepts, with favor per piece and for the stack; pick the amount and offer. You can also use an item on the shrine to offer the whole stack.
- ACCEPTED GIFTS — the full list of what this god takes and how much favor each gift is worth (items, item groups and categories).
- TIERS & BLESSINGS — how favor works, all four tiers with their thresholds and bonuses, and what the god's wrath does.
- Favor panel — favor bar with the tier marks I–IV, your tier, the patron / Rite of Severance button, today's favor, time until the god grows angry, the current and the next blessing.
- The footer links to the Northarun Discord.
Patron and favor
- You serve one patron god at a time. Choose the patron at its shrine (button in the favor panel, click twice). Only the patron accepts your offerings and blesses you.
- Changing your god requires the Rite of Severance (see below).
- Favor is capped at 2000; you can gain at most 200 per real day.
- Favor fades by 10 per hour of play.
- Tiers: I · Worshipper (150), II · Devotee (500), III · Chosen (1100), IV · Legend (1800). Reaching tier IV takes well over a week of steady offerings — and you must keep offering to stay there. Tiers III and IV are announced to the whole server.
- "Hours of play" are real hours while that character is online on the server — time offline never counts, and every character has its own favor.
Rite of Severance
To leave your patron — for another god or for none — you perform the Rite of Severance at a shrine (patron button or Rite of Severance button, click twice):
- Cost: 300 coins + 300 for every tier reached with the old patron (tier IV = 1500 coins), paid from the inventory. Free only if the patron has received nothing from you yet.
- Penalty: all favor with the old god is lost, you are Forsaken for 3 hours of play — no blessings, health regen −20%, stamina regen −15%, offerings give only 50% favor — and you cannot return to the old god for 24 hours.
- Thunder and a red flash mark the rite for everyone nearby.
Blessings
Blessings are shown as a status effect with the god's symbol. No percentage bonus goes above 50%.
| God | Tier I | Tier II | Tier III | Tier IV |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Odin | skills +5% faster | skills +10%, map reveal radius +20% | skills +15%, map reveal +35%, skill loss on death −25% | skills +25%, map reveal +50%, skill loss on death −50% |
| Thor | carry +25 | carry +50, 5% chance that a melee hit calls lightning (+30% of the hit) | carry +75, 10% lightning, resistant to lightning | carry +100, 15% lightning (+50% of the hit), resistant to lightning |
| Freyja | food lasts 10% longer | food +15%, 15% double harvest (plants, berries, mushrooms) | food +20%, 25% double harvest, fall damage −40% | food +30%, 35% double harvest, fall damage −50%, falcon cloak: glide instead of falling |
| Njord | steering a ship: wind never below 40%, swim stamina −15% | wind ≥ 55%, swim stamina −25%, swim speed +10% | wind ≥ 70%, swim stamina −35%, swim speed +15% | wind always perfect, swim stamina −50%, swim speed +25% |
| Loki | speed +4%, sneak +5 | speed +6%, sneak +10, dodge stamina −10% | speed +8%, sneak +15, dodge stamina −20%, 5% chance that a blow passes through you | speed +12%, sneak +25, dodge stamina −30%, 10% evade |
Freyja deliberately gives no health regeneration (guild banners already do) — her gifts are nature, food and flight.
Patron powers
Every god grants one active power. Forge the amulet of your patron at its shrine (tab PATRON POWER, tier I or more),
wear it in the trinket slot and press H (PowerKey). Stronger and faster to recharge with each tier. The power is silent while the god is angry or you are Forsaken.
| God | Power | Tier I → IV |
|---|---|---|
| Odin | Eye of Odin — reveals the map around you and marks ore veins and hidden chests with pillars of light (45 s) | 80 → 180 m map, 30 → 60 m marks · cooldown 12 → 6 min |
| Thor | Hammer of Thunder — lightning strikes every enemy around you (stagger) | 25 → 90 damage, 6 → 12 m · 6 → 3 min |
| Freyja | Tears of Freyja — heals you and every player near you; from tier II also cures poison, fire, frost and tar | 30 → 100 HP, 8 → 15 m · 10 → 6 min |
| Njord | Calm Seas — perfect wind in your sail, swimming costs no stamina, +30% swim speed | 2 → 6 min · 12 → 8 min |
| Loki | Illusion — +25% speed, silent, monsters chasing you lose sight of you | 10 → 30 s · 8 → 5 min |
Amulet cost (default): 200 coins + Feathers 10 & Deer trophy (Odin), Hard antler & Flint 10 (Thor), Honey 5 & Dandelion 10 (Freyja), Neck tail 5 & Resin 10 (Njord), Surtling core & Resin 10 (Loki). The cooldown is stored with the character.
Blót — the weekly festival
Every Saturday at 20:00 (server time, configurable) the Blót of one god begins (a different god every week) for 2 hours:
- every offering gives 2x favor and ignores the daily limit,
- all offerings of all players fill a shared bar (3000 favor),
- a full bar gives every player the tier II blessing of the Blót god for 4 hours — even players who serve another god (not the Forsaken),
- start, 25/50/75% progress and the result are announced on screen, in chat and — with
DiscordWebhookset — on the Northarun Discord. A horn sounds for everyone when it begins.
Admins can start one any time: gods blot start [god] [minutes], gods blot stop, gods blot.
Favor bar
A small bar at the bottom of the screen (left of the guild bar): patron symbol, tier, favor with the tier marks, time until the god grows angry
(or THE GOD IS ANGRY / Forsaken), the power key and its cooldown, and the Blót progress or reward. Turn it off with ShowFavorHud, move it with FavorHudOffsetX/Y.
Sounds and effects
Each god has its own voice — Odin's horn, Thor's hammer strike, Freyja's harp, Njord's waves, Loki's laughter — heard when you offer and when the power is used.
Glowing runes rise from the altar with every offering. All sounds are synthesized in the mod (no game assets); volume: EffectsVolume.
Wrath
When your patron is at tier I or more and you make no offering for 3 hours of play, the god becomes angry: favor fades three times faster, a Wrath status effect appears and every ~15 minutes the god punishes you:
| God | Wrath effect | Punishment |
|---|---|---|
| Odin | skills improve 50% slower | the ravens peck away your progress towards the next level in one skill |
| Thor | carry weight −50 | lightning strikes at random one of your own buildings nearby (never below 10% health) or you (only when above 30% health) |
| Freyja | health regen −30% | one piece of food in your inventory wilts |
| Njord | swimming costs 50% more stamina | on a ship: headwind for 3 minutes; on land: drenched (Wet) |
| Loki | stamina regen −20% | steals 5% of your coins — at most 50, or 100 when you carry 1000 or more — and pranks you twice as often |
An offering worth at least 25 favor at once calms the god. If your favor falls below tier I the god loses interest and the wrath ends on its own. The shrines of an angry god glow red for you.
Loki's pranks
Players with Loki as patron (tier I+) get a prank about every 30 minutes of play: two inventory slots swap places, his champion hen appears (a tamed hen wearing a horned helmet), the wind turns against you for a few minutes, you put your weapon away, someone taps your shoulder… and sometimes he simply leaves a small gift. Offerings to Loki are worth between 0 and 2 times their value — he decides.
Offerings (defaults)
| God | Likes |
|---|---|
| Odin | any trophy 10 (boss trophies 100–260), meads 12, mead bases 4, feathers 1, eitr 3, black core 15 |
| Thor | weapons 6 per quality level, copper/tin 1, bronze 3, iron 4, silver 5, black metal 6, flametal 9, thunderstone 40, hard antler 15, Eikthyr trophy 150, troll/fenring trophies 20, cooked meat |
| Freyja | any food 10 per 100 food points (ValheimCuisine dishes count), honey 3, queen bee 40, flowers, berries, vegetables and seeds, ancient seed 12, boar/deer trophies, dragon egg 150 |

| Loki | anything 0.5, wishbone 120, shaman trophies, surtling core 6, ooze, guck, entrails, bloodbags, mushrooms 3–5, coins 0.02 each |
Every table is a config string ([4 - Offerings]):
Prefab:favor— exact item, e.g.Thunderstone:40Prefix*:favor— e.g.MeadBase*:4*text*:favor— text in the prefab or item name, e.g.*mead*:12#trophy,#fish,#mead,#any— categories;#food:N= N favor per 100 food points;#weapon:N/#armor:N= N per quality level- Exact names win over prefixes, prefixes over
*text*,*text*over categories.0= refused.
Items from other mods work automatically through the categories (Monstrum and ExtendedBosses trophies, ValheimCuisine food, Warfare/Armory weapons).

Admin commands
Console command gods (server admins only):
gods list— patron and favor of all players (*= online,!= angry)gods set <player> <god> <favor>— makes the god the player's patron with that favor, e.g.gods set Ragnhild thor 1800gods wrath <player> <god> on|offgods reset <player>
Data and security
- The server keeps the favor of every player in
BepInEx/config/Gods/<world name>.dat(with.dat.bak) and logs every offering, wrath and renouncement inBepInEx/config/Gods/<world name>.log. - Only the server changes favor. Players are identified by the character ID of their in-world object. Gifts the god does not accept (not your patron, not on the list, over the daily limit) are returned.
- Offered items are consumed — including magic items and their enchantments.
- Punishments and pranks run on the player's own client and only touch that player and their own buildings.
- As everywhere in Valheim, the inventory belongs to the client; an anti-cheat (e.g. AzuAntiCheat) is recommended.
Building from source
The shrine models are generated in code — no Unity, no AssetBundle. tools\shrines\build_shrines.ps1 builds the
meshes (convex stone blocks, lathe bowls, tubes for serpents and the prow), the seamless stone texture, the rune
panels with the god symbols and Elder Futhark inscriptions, the glow masks, all icons and preview renders
(art\previews, software renderer). build.ps1 embeds assets\ in the DLL.
