RustyHeathensQoL
Rusty Heathens QoL: inventory and gear slots, Rusty Backpack, nearby crafting, auto repair, food tools, grave markers, craft audit, and achievements during modded play.Rusty Heathens QoL 1.0.4
The main Rusty Heathens Valheim quality-of-life plugin.
Install
Install RustyHeathensQoL 1.0.4 on the dedicated server and on participating player PCs. For server automation and the persistent Rusty Backpack, also install RustyHeathensServerQoL 1.0.1 on the dedicated server.
Use Thunderstore Mod Manager/r2modman for player profiles, or replace the DLL while Valheim is closed. Keep only one active copy of the plugin. Existing world, character, backpack, grave, and config data are preserved.
Included
- 8-column x 6-row normal inventory with dedicated gear, utility, trinket, ammo, and food slots.
- Rusty Backpack with progression capacity, four-row scrolling view, weightless contents, recovery graves, and travel-safe opening.
- Nearby-chest crafting/building with player materials consumed first.
- Proximity auto repair, safe Quick Stack, food warning/hotkeys, and character preview.
- Red gear-grave markers and paired backpack/inventory grave handling.
- Client side of the owner-verified AutoStore/AutoProcess handoffs used by ServerQoL.
- Craft/upgrade audit reporting to ServerQoL.
Craft audit
Successful crafts and upgrades are reported to the connected server. ServerQoL resolves the connected player identity and writes the authoritative daily file at:
BepInEx/RustyHeathensLogs/CraftingAudit-YYYY-MM-DD.log
Failed craft attempts are not logged. This is an operational audit trail, not tamper-proof anti-cheat attestation.
Diagnostics
Routine diagnostic chatter is off by default. Enable Diagnostics.VerboseLogging only while troubleshooting. Warnings and errors remain visible.
Compatibility
Prepared for Valheim 1.0.20 and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351. Keep the server and participating clients on the same Rusty Heathens QoL release.
Achievements during modded play
Version 1.0.1 introduced support for normal achievement progression while mods are loaded. Every player needs QoL 1.0.4 on their own PC; installing it only on the dedicated server cannot enable player achievements. This applies wherever the updated client plugin is loaded, including single-player.
Only the modded-flag read inside the game's achievement evaluator is ignored. The global modded flag and menu label remain unchanged. Character/devcommand history, cheated-item tags, world modifier checks, difficulty requirements, and the game's official achievement bypass retain their normal behavior. Characters or worlds blocked for those other reasons can still be ineligible.
This does not automatically award achievements, restore missed progress, reset saves, or grant cheat/admin access. Earn the requirements through normal play. A separate achievement-enabler mod is unnecessary; avoid stacking it with this feature when troubleshooting.
No new plugin GUID is added. Existing ModGuard allowance for com.rustylasergaming.rustyheathensqol still applies. No policy edit is needed when using the existing unpinned entry. For the supplied server logs, update ServerQoL 0.5.14 to the paired ServerQoL 1.0.1 release and use ServerSync 1.0.2 separately. These plugins have independent version numbers.
Backpack overlap fix in 1.0.2
The container panel now follows the actual bottom edge of the expanded player inventory, with clearance for Take all and Place stacks. This also applies to normal chests. No config change is required.
Validation
Compiled with zero warnings/errors against the supplied Valheim/BepInEx references. All 63 existing QoL logic checks and 28 placement checks passed. Placement checks execute the production patch using transform test doubles, covering several scales, panel resizing, repeated updates, and disabled/closed states. They do not replace an in-game Unity rendering test. Achievement support is unchanged from 1.0.1.
Live Valheim testing has not been performed. Test the backpack and a normal chest at your usual GUI scale, and confirm both buttons and all visible rows remain accessible. Existing inventory/backpack data formats remain unchanged.
Source, tests, and rebuild instructions are supplied separately in RustyHeathensQoL_1.0.4_SOURCE.zip. This Thunderstore package contains install files only.
Interaction fixes in 1.0.3
- Correct the vanilla chest discovery message name to the registered
RPC_Discoveredhandler. This addresses the327122920missing-RPC warning in the supplied 1.0.20 log. - Guard hammer radial actions against missing or stale hammer references, missing selected pieces, and absent build-piece lists. Valid interactions continue through the original game code.
- Match inventory stack capacity by item name, quality, and world level. Refuse additions cleanly when the player inventory has no normal cells or matching stack space; leave source items untouched. Partial-stack transfers retain the original behavior.
- Preserve the 1.0.2 backpack placement fix and modded achievement support.
The original -1, -1 inventory warning can mean a full inventory; the log alone does not establish corruption or item loss. These changes do not establish or fix the cause of server-wide desync.
Compiled against the supplied Valheim 1.0.20 assemblies. The 1.0.3 interaction fixes are retained. Live Valheim, controller input, multiplayer latency, and Thunderstore approval remain unverified.
Four-row Rusty Backpack limit
With the existing settings (InitialSlots=16 and AdditionalSlotsPerDefeatedBoss=8), capacity is:
| World progression | Slots | Rows |
|---|---|---|
| Before Eikthyr | 16 | 2 |
| Eikthyr defeated | 24 | 3 |
| The Elder defeated | 32 | 4 |
| Later bosses | 32 | 4 |
Only Eikthyr and The Elder contribute expansions. A hard 32-slot maximum applies even with larger configuration values. New backpack grids use eight columns; custom slot targets round up to whole rows, never beyond four. Existing 16/8 settings need no edit.
Install QoL 1.0.4 on the dedicated server and all participating PCs, and ServerQoL 1.0.1 on the dedicated server. Replace old DLLs while the game/server is stopped; keep one copy of each. This pair supersedes QoL 1.0.3 and ServerQoL 1.0.0. ServerSync 1.0.2 is separate and unchanged. Routine Diagnostics.VerboseLogging remains false by default.
Older oversized bags keep their saved items and temporarily remain accessible for withdrawal only. Remove items from rows beyond four, then reopen the bag. Once every remaining item fits, the owner resizes the same inventory and persistent object; no item copying, deletion or automatic dropping is used. Recovery graves remain accessible and are not capped. The main player inventory is not changed by this backpack limit.
Validated against supplied Valheim 1.0.20 references with 254 server logic/progression checks, 96 client recovery checks, and 23 game metadata/package checks. These 373 checks are offline; test doubles are used for recovery. Live Valheim, Harmony installation and multiplayer testing remain pending. Thunderstore formatting validation is not moderation approval.
