Rusty Heathens QoL: inventory and gear slots, Rusty Backpack, nearby crafting, auto repair, food tools, grave markers, craft audit, and achievements during modded play.Rusty Heathens QoL 1.0.9
Valheim quality-of-life features for Rusty Heathens. Built against the supplied Valheim 1.0.21 game assemblies (network 41).
Fixes in this build
- P sorts into matching boxes only. Each material goes into eligible boxes already containing that material. A full matching stack can use a free cell in that matching box or another matching box. Empty and unrelated boxes are never fallback destinations; unmatched items stay on the player.
- Craft while another player has a box open. The current chest owner processes the requested material withdrawal on its live inventory. The box stays open and ownership stays with that player. Repeated messages resend the same receipt instead of withdrawing twice. Recipe execution still requires the materials to arrive in the crafter's inventory.
- Map and inventory cannot overlap. Inventory/backpack opening is blocked while the large map or a text field is active. Opening the large map is blocked while inventory is open. Existing overlap is recovered by closing inventory while preserving the map. Closing actions remain available.
- Backpack transfers do not trigger hotbar actions. Hotbar use and selection input are suppressed while inventory, map or text input is active, including the closing input edge. Unsolicited weapon/tool equips and equip queues are blocked during inventory use. Intentional right-click equips and rearranging current hand equipment remain supported.
Installation
Close Valheim and stop the server. Update to QoL 1.0.9 on the server and every participating client, including the player opening the box. Keep one active QoL DLL per installation. Import the ZIP as a local mod in your manager, or copy plugins/RustyHeathensQoL into BepInEx/plugins.
Keep the existing config and ModGuard allowlist. Plugin GUID is unchanged. Shared crafting requires this version on the peers processing chest withdrawals; do not test it with a mixture of 1.0.8 and 1.0.9.
ServerQoL and ServerSync remain separate mods. The separate ServerSync 1.0.4 build adds reviewed 1.0.21 compatibility.
Retained policies and features
P still excludes private/personal boxes, all active ward areas, occupied boxes, graves, backpacks and vehicle inventories. It still leaves equipment, food and dedicated inventory items alone. Crafting retains its existing range, access and ward-permission checks; P's stricter blanket ward/private exclusions do not apply to crafting.
Six-row inventory and dedicated slots, Rusty Backpack progression, nearby material counts, proximity repair, food tools, character preview, grave markers, craft audit, automation integration and achievement eligibility handling are retained.
Interrupted material delivery
A pending withdrawal is recorded on the chest and character, scoped to the world. If the player has no inventory room, make room and remain near the box: the transfer retries without another withdrawal. A disconnect or timeout does not automatically refund or discard reserved materials. Rejoining the same world near that chest resumes the receipt. A chest with an unacknowledged withdrawal cannot be dismantled/destroyed until delivery is resolved. Cancelling crafting can leave secured ingredients in the player's inventory; it never replays a cancelled craft automatically.
If the waiting message persists after both peers reconnect with this build and sufficient inventory room, retain the client/server logs and report [RHQOL SharedCraft] lines. Do not delete the pending character/chest data. This protocol does not provide a distributed disk transaction across a world rollback and a separately restored character save.
Validation and remaining test
Compilation, production-code tests with simulated game/UI/network state, and checks against the actual supplied game metadata passed. The source bundle includes the logs and reproducible build inputs (game/loader DLLs are not redistributed).
This build has not been run in live Valheim multiplayer. First test with two players: sort wood/stone into separate seeded boxes; craft while the second player keeps the resource box open and moves a stack; type a pin name containing inventory/hotbar keys; and move gear in/out of the backpack. Reopen/reconnect and check item totals. Thunderstore publication/review has not been performed.
