RaftSpeedometer
Client-side speedometer for ValheimRAFT vehicles and vanilla ships: current speed in knots and m/s plus top speed. Measures real movement, so it works however your boat is powered.Raft Speedometer
A small on-screen speedometer that works on ValheimRAFT boats (current V2 vehicles and older V1 rafts) as well as vanilla ships.
While you're aboard, a panel at the top of the screen shows:
- RAFT SPEED or SHIP SPEED, depending on what you're on
- Current speed in knots (big number)
- The same speed in m/s underneath, the unit ValheimRAFT's own config uses
- Top speed reached on this vehicle
How it measures
It times how far the vehicle actually travels across the water, averaged over the last second. It ignores vertical movement, so waves and bobbing don't count. It never reads another mod's internal speed values, so the number is the same whatever is pushing the boat: sail count and tier, ValheimRAFT rudder-speed config, skill-tree bonuses, wind, or a custom engine.
That makes it handy for testing changes. Hover ValheimRAFT's steering wheel to see sail area, mass and propulsion (its ShowShipStats option). Then press F6 to reset the top speed, sail a stretch, and compare.
Keys
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| F7 | Show / hide the panel |
| F6 | Reset the top speed |
Both keys can be changed in the config.
Install
In r2modman, go to Settings → Import local mod and pick RaftSpeedometer-1.0.0.zip.
The mod is client-side only. The server doesn't need it, and other players only need it if they want the panel themselves. It adds no Harmony patches, sends nothing over the network and saves nothing to the world.
Config
File: BepInEx/config/burksheim.raftspeedometer.cfg (or edit in-game with the BepInEx Configuration Manager, F1).
| Section | Setting | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | Enabled | true | |
| General | Toggle Key | F7 | |
| General | Reset Top Speed Key | F6 | |
| Display | Primary Unit | Knots | Knots, MetersPerSecond, KilometersPerHour, MilesPerHour |
| Display | Secondary Unit | MetersPerSecond | Same choices, or None |
| Display | Show Top Speed | true | |
| Display | Screen Position | TopCenter | Any corner or top/bottom center |
| Display | Offset X / Offset Y | 0 / 12 | Pixels at 1080p; scales with resolution |
| Display | Scale | 1.0 | 0.5 to 3 |
| Display | Background Opacity | 0.55 | 0 to 1 |
| Measurement | Averaging Seconds | 1.0 | Longer gives a steadier number but reacts slower |
| Measurement | Leave Delay Seconds | 1.5 | Keeps the panel up while you jump around on deck |
| Measurement | Max Plausible Speed | 60 m/s | Bigger sudden jumps (teleports, a raft re-centering itself after you build) are ignored instead of counted |
| Measurement | Extra Vehicle Names | (empty) | Only for boats from other mods; ValheimRAFT and vanilla ships need nothing here |
Good to know
- The panel hides while the big map, inventory or Esc menu is open, and when the game HUD is hidden (Ctrl+F3).
- Top speed is kept if you hop off and back onto the same boat. It resets when you board a different vehicle or press F6.
- Speeds under about 0.3 kn read as 0.0, so a raft rocking at anchor doesn't creep.
- To confirm it's detecting your raft, check the BepInEx console or
LogOutput.logfor a line likeTracking ValheimRAFT vehicle '...'when you step aboard.
