BossPotions
Craft boss trophies into 12 permanent Health, Stamina, Carry Weight and Eitr potions. Three tiers, configurable recipes and per-stat limits, with legacy character progress migration.Boss Potions
Turn boss trophies into permanent character upgrades. Adds 12 craftable potions, with three tiers each for Health, Stamina, Carry Weight and Eitr (mana).
Bonuses
| Potion | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | +5 | +10 | +15 |
| Stamina | +10 | +20 | +30 |
| Carry Weight | +10 | +20 | +50 |
| Eitr | +5 | +10 | +15 |
Every drink adds to that character's permanent bonus. Repeated drinks stack; each stat has an optional configurable cap. Potions do not occupy food slots. Health, Stamina and Eitr potions increase the maximum; they are not instant recovery potions. Normal regeneration still applies.
Carry Weight adds a flat amount to the game's calculated carrying capacity. Eitr uses smaller increments because it provides a permanent pool without using a food slot. Drinking one of each Eitr tier adds +30 maximum Eitr. Eitr recipes begin at the Queen; this is a design choice to keep the new progression in the magic stage of the game. These defaults are intended for customization, not a claim of perfect endgame balance.
On-screen potion summary
After each successful drink, a centered notification shows the bonus just gained, followed by the character's cumulative permanent potion bonuses in a list:
+15 Eitr
Permanent potion bonuses
Health: +30
Stamina: +60
Carry Weight: +80
Eitr: +30
The example assumes one of each tier has been consumed. All four categories are shown, including +0 when a category has not been used. Totals come from earned potion points, so they exclude base stats, food, equipment and temporary effects such as Corpse Run. The notification uses the game's normal message duration. No Skills or Stats panel is changed.
Crafting
Craft at a level 1 Cauldron, with no fermentation. Each craft produces one potion. All listed ingredients are required. Discover the ingredients to unlock the recipe normally.
Trophies are cumulative in this order: Eikthyr → The Elder → Bonemass → Moder → Yagluth → The Queen → Fader. “Through Moder,” for example, means all four trophies from Eikthyr through Moder.
| Potion | Tier | Ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| Health | 1 | 1 of each trophy through Bonemass |
| Health | 2 | 2 of each trophy through Yagluth |
| Health | 3 | 4 of each of the seven trophies + 4 Sacrificial Blood |
| Stamina / Carry Weight | 1 | 1 of each trophy through The Elder |
| Stamina / Carry Weight | 2 | 2 of each trophy through Moder |
| Stamina / Carry Weight | 3 | 3 of each of the seven trophies + 3 Sacrificial Blood |
| Eitr | 1 | 1 of each trophy through The Queen |
| Eitr | 2 | 2 of each of the seven trophies |
| Eitr | 3 | 4 of each of the seven trophies + 4 Sacrificial Blood |
Tier 3 retains the previous release's FrozenKingDrop (Sacrificial Blood) ingredient. This is a provisional late-game ingredient, not a claim that it is a boss trophy. Recipes are configurable. If an ingredient is unavailable in a game version, only the affected recipe is disabled; the potion's item definition remains registered.
Installation and updates
Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Required dependencies:
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350
- Jotunn 2.30.0
For manual installation, copy BepInEx/plugins/BossPotions/BossPotions.dll from this archive into your active profile's BepInEx/plugins/BossPotions/ directory. Replace the previous DLL; keep only one BossPotions.dll in the profile. Source code does not need to be installed.
When using Thunderstore, use the profile's BepInEx folder, which may be separate from the Steam game folder. Close the game before updating. Back up your character and world before testing a new release.
Multiplayer requires the same mod version on every client and the server. Configuration is local and is not synchronized by this mod; use matching settings. Multiplayer has not been validated for this release.
Existing characters and save behavior
Version 0.2.0 reads the previous Health/Stamina progress and keeps all six original potion IDs. The first successful drink saves the four-stat progress format. The previous entry is retained untouched, and other mods' custom data is not edited. Invalid or unknown progress is preserved and blocks potion use rather than being reset.
Permanent points are stored in the character's custom data using the game's normal save mechanism. The mod does not directly edit character or world files. Bonuses follow the character between worlds; death is not intended to reset them.
Do not downgrade to 0.1.2 after using 0.2.0. The old release cannot read the new progress format or register the six new potion IDs. Keeping the old data entry is not a downgrade feature.
If you want to temporarily disable the mechanics while keeping saved item definitions available, set [Safety] PreservationMode = true and restart. Keep Boss Potions and its dependencies installed. This disables recipes, drinking and applied bonuses while leaving stored progress intact. It is not a guarantee of safe full removal: loading and saving without custom item definitions can lose modded items. Restore a backup if you need to return to a pre-mod save.
Configuration
Launch once to generate BepInEx/config/kalel.bosspotions.cfg.
[Limits] Health,Stamina,CarryWeight,Eitr: maximum potion-earned bonus;0means no gameplay cap. Lowering a cap does not remove points already earned. A potion that would exceed the cap is not consumed.[BP_<Stat>_T<tier>] Bonus: points per drink. Changes affect future drinks only.[BP_<Stat>_T<tier>] Recipe: semicolon-separatedPrefab:quantityingredients.[Crafting] Station: defaultpiece_cauldron.[Safety] PreservationMode: defaultfalse.
Restart after changes. Existing custom recipes and bonuses remain in your configuration when updating. The English names do not change the original config keys or save identifiers.
Testing commands
In a local test world with the console and cheats enabled:
spawn BP_CarryWeight_T1 1
spawn BP_CarryWeight_T2 1
spawn BP_CarryWeight_T3 1
spawn BP_Eitr_T1 1
spawn BP_Eitr_T2 1
spawn BP_Eitr_T3 1
Original IDs remain BP_Health_T1 through BP_Health_T3 and BP_Stamina_T1 through BP_Stamina_T3. See Source/docs/TESTING.md for upgrade and persistence checks.
Compatibility and validation
Compiled against the supplied Valheim 1.0.12 references, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, Harmony 2.9.0 and Jotunn 2.30.0. The DLL builds with zero warnings and errors; 116 core assertions pass, including legacy migration, independent stat caps, invalid progress and consumption consistency.
The author confirmed successful in-game testing of all 12 potions in version 0.2.0, including the persistence checks. The reported +150 Carry Weight after recovering a tombstone was confirmed to be the normal Corpse Run effect. Version 0.2.1 changes only the drinking notification; its visual layout still needs an in-game check. Automated core tests do not run Unity or establish compatibility with other mods or future game releases.
